What does it mean to 'open up a muffler'? I allways yank the spark arrester on my climbing saws, but I'm guessing theres more to it then that.

Is this something my 066 could benefit from?

I did a 'saw modification' search, but didn't find what I wanted. Anybody know a good thread discussing this?

Try searching for 'muffler mods'. By Gypo's rule of thumb, the muffler opening should be twice the area of the exhaust port. if you make any mods, you'll need to readjust the carb.

The best way to help out your 066 is to buy the Magnum front cover. This will give you the right dimentions for your exhaust port. You will need to richen up the saw a bit due to the increased flow and Hp you will find.

Later,
Chris

Walker has modified mufflers for 120.40 Can = 86.05 US as quoted by them. Probably worth it if you’re a klutz with a grinder.
I’m trying something different, a billet machined muffler.

Prices must have gone up. I paid $50 for two a couple years ago. Heck it only costs $100 for the full Walkerizing doesnt it?

The 066 front cover with the screened outlet is nigh unto $40 in the lower 48.

they quoted me.. can u believe this steel trap mind, cant remember . i think it was 50 to my door.

Sorry I was gone this weekend watching my better half tair up some wood at a lumber Jack Festival in Loyalsocks, PA. I will check to see what I have in the stihl pile of parts. I might have a 066 Mag muffler cover. I need to know if the bottom front part of your muffler is flat against the oil tank or has a little rise under their for air flow. Or you can give me the age or cerial # off the saw.
Thanks,
Chris
