This is more woodworking than milling but I thought it might amuse some of you. I have always hated my wire tomato cages, their rusty, bent and take a lot of room to store. I had a small ceder that had been down for several years that I sawed into 3 ft sections. I attached it to a piece of 3/4 plywood and milled it on my woodworking bandsaw. I made some tomato cages from 1 1/4 x 1/2 strips.

I think I'll try that too, thanks for the pics.

I sure wish I lived near you. That cedar would make some incredible turkey calls.

You'll love those cages. My neighbor made some years ago from old reclaimed redwood and he is using them 10 years later.

Pete, the guys around here use Cedar, Walnut & Poplar for their calls. PM me your addy and block size needed and I'll send you a few next time I fire up my mill. I'm currently skidding cedar logs off the mtn to the mill for my house, so I will have a ton of Cedar flitches that will get cut up into kindling.

Nice offer

Thanks for the offer. After 15 years or more making turkey calls, they have taken a back seat to duck calls as I'm living in a country without any wild turkeys or turkey hunters.

I've had friends ship me duck call materials from the states and shipping has gotten ridiculous. If I come back to the states, I'll remember who has the nice cedar.

The best box call I own, (the one I always try to work toward), was made from red cedar from Oklahoma by Albert Paul. I tried for years to find a source for it and never did. I used tons of eastern red cedar which was good, but I think the western red is denser and really gives a crisper sound. Maybe I'm wrong, but your wood looks darker than the eastern I was used to buying from Florida.

Thanks anyway.

Pete

Glad you all like them. When I showed them to my wife she just shook her head and ask "How much time have you spent on that".
