I just remembered, the mcculloch #310 manual said to use leaded gas, now, where would you get leaded gas these days?

I assume unleaded gas was used by the owner to fill the saw when I borrowed it from him. Would the unleaded gas cause all the smoking that I experienced?

The reason for leaded gas (aside from the lead company lobby) was to reduce knock and cushion the valves of four stroke engines.

Chainsaws don't have valves and cheap McCullochs don't have compression high enough for the knock factor.

In other words, no.
