I have been thinking about the mods I just did to my 260 (opening the muffler & putting an adj carb on) and being that it revs so much more now, I'm wondering if it could perhaps be turning more RPM's than the factory recommendations……EVEN THOUGH I believe the carb adjustments are good (I turned the HS screw to max screaming death then backed it out until it 4 cycled [quits in the cut] and the spark plug is tan indicating proper mixture….it seems to run excellent all across the board).

Is it very likely that my lightly modified 260 could be tuned just right and still be turning more RPM's than it should be??

Hopefully, my concerns are unfounded due to the fact I have never operated a saw that ran this good.

I suppose a tach would come in quite handy right about now unfortunately, I don't own one.

Thanks,

Brian,

You have to quit tempting me with a 346.....or I'll actually have to do some work and make a little money;-). Seriously though, do you, or anyone else out there, think a stock 346 would run that much better than the slightly modded 260 I have now? Please tell me no!

Oh, & thanks for the response.

Rusty- Your modded 260 is a great saw and will easily cut with a stock 346, or even outcut it at times. A modded 346 is a sleeper- there's a lot of room for improvement because of certain engineering factors, the same factors which Stihl tries to circumvent in the course of making a better running stock saw.

Whew!! That's what I was hoping to hear. Thanks for the vote of confidence Jacob.
