What do you think is the most commonly sold/utilized Granberg Alaskan Mk. III mill?; The 24", 30", 36", 48", or 56"?

i would guess and say 36".thats the most logical imo. you can fit up to a 42" bar for a max cut of about 36",but have the ability to run any bar smaller ,with the weight differences neglegable vs the smaller alaskans.plus thats the one i have, lol.

+2 on the 48"

I run it on a 37" bar and it's big, but it's nice to have. I also have a 30" mill, but always grab the big one.

Darn, now I feel like a pansy because I only got the 36. I've got 2 old Homelite 1050's and put the 24" bar on the mini mill and the 36" on the Granberg, Joe.

poll

I have a 36" with a 42" Oregon bar. The attatchment is maxed out, but i like the extra space between the log and power head as it seems to run cooler.

I agree, that gap will make a difference because a lot of modern saws have the exhaust pointing forward and this bounces the exhaust off the mill and log and back to the saw and/or the operator. Milling saws are stressed enough as it it without having to deal with this extra heat. The problem in dealing with it by using extra space between the lod and the powerhead is that the powerhead is then even further way from the log than it needs to be. Besides requiring the operator to spread their arms further than necessary, this arrangement also unbalances the the mill and makes it a bit more difficult to manage. This is why I advocate a muffler mod that redirects the saws exhaust way from the log and operator and tucking tke saw up as close as possible to the log
