If you were new to milling would you go with the sure thing or take a gamble and buy the latest and greatest? I have 2 weeks to decide. I have read the thread on this forum about the mx34. I have watched the norwood and cook's vids numerous times. I wish I had a couple months to decide so maybe a few consumers could give some real world feedback.

Both can suite your needs fine. If I was buying new I would probably lean towards the Cooks MP32, just because it has more options, appears to be heavier built, and is cheaper than the MX34, AFAIK.

Also worth looking at is the Log Master LM-1, IMO, also heavy built.

I think it depends on what you need to do also, which you haven't stated.

I picked up a used LumberMate 2000 and happy with it. Truth be told, most all of the common small sawmills are pretty reliable and you can't go wrong with many of them, so you should also consider the WoodMizer LT-15 and Timberking 1220, and even a swinghead mill like the Lucas or Peterson.

I recommend buying used to save money and leverage the economy, but some folks feel comfy buying new, so don't let my comments steer you away from a new purchase. Just that you get more for your $$$s buying used at the right price.
