I have run two tanks of fuel. So tonight I took the bar and
chain off to clean the saw. I noticed that the back of the muffler
and front of the cylinder fins was very wet. It doesn't
look like bar oil. Thought maybe the muffler was a little loose
took the muffler cover off and the muffler body was good
and tight. I thought the muffler would have some kind of guts it.
And it took 4 pulls to get it to hit with the choke on then
3 more pulls on fast idle to start. let it set for 30 min.
It took the same 7 pulls to get it running again. Sat. & Sun.
It would take 2 choked pulls and 1 fast idle pull to run.

Should there be anything inside the muffler?
Is there a gasket between the muffler and cylinder?

Thanks, Gary

Inside the muffler is basically a ramp. Starts at the bottom of the exhaust port, and comes up to about the top. There is, or should be a gasket between the muffler and the cylinder.

As for the number of pulls to start, mine was the same way. Warm, however, it always started on the first pull.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm interesting post there. Gonna let Lake take up that baby and learn something myself on that one. One thing is for certain, something has changed with the saw, what is Lake's job to tell us both, sit tight, he'll be along shortly..

Yes, Casey there is the ramp of a baffle in there but that is all.
I thought there would be more. The wet on the back of the muffler
looks the same as on the inside of the muffler.

There is a gasket btween the front cover and main muffler for the NON-dual port version.. The dual port version doesn't have a gasket as the internal pressures are low.The gasket is not there to make the saw run better - just to make the EPA happy.

The muffler to cylinder: There is a Heat Sheild against the cylinder, then a gasket (deformed steel) and then the muffler.

On my 046 mag I also had deposits on the cylinder. Upon inspection of the back of the muffler I found that the mating surface was not flat. A little metal working and it is now flat, sealed, and things are cleaner.

I'm taking it to the dealer after work today and let him
look at it. And ask about the duel port muffler cover.

Thanks, Gary
