ok i got a ms250 reaching 14500rpms limiter caps still in place and completly stock will idle right around 2800-3000 and die on (intermittent) from time to time when saw gets hot but is not consistent so i think i have a leak somwhere

yes its a full needle and it had the limiter on the h jet but not on the low and the peak free rpms is 14670 +- 20 rpms and the saw will run fine one day then the next day once hot it will idle for about 2 minutes and then it will die. rpms is thru the roof on this saw at wide open throttle and ive checked all the hoses and they are good ive checked the carburetor and nothing clean as can be. also the fuel thru it is 50-1 96 octane and eth free. throwing me for a stump have to vac and pressure test next if this readjusting after the cap is off dosnt work

I don't see where the confusion is. The saw has an adjustable carb, it's tuned lean, and running too fast. If the piston isn't fried, re-tune and be done with it. It's not uncommon at all for a saw to be lean from the factory. Did you just buy the Tach and find out how lean it was?

ok well I tested the saw and the pressure and vac test passed, and the rpms are still hitting 14600 ruffly and I have had this tach a while and the saw belongs to a friend said he was having a issue I told he to let me look at it and this is what im finding there is no leak in the saw and the fuel lines and the gaskets are all new as of last night and the carb was reset to factory and then adjusted from there to richin it up a bit and the rpms are droping down to 13000+- 500 but will jump every 1-2 minutes up to 14000 or more and then back down at wide open throttle to 13000 or a little more I know this is a leak but im having a issue finding it and its only intermittent when hot im not a stihl guy anyone have any ideas that I might just be over looking and would a bearing failure cause this

found the leak it was on the carburetor bottom side of it and was a little pinhole leak tested it twice cold nothing get the carb warmed up by running saw and then pulled the carb really qwick and what do u know tinny tinny little leak on the gasket I can really see any problems on the gasket but it was there and I got a new gasket in it and its seems to like it a lot runs right at 13200 and holds steady and idles right as well

The ms 250 that I worked on did have an h, an l, and a low idle adjustment. The hole for the l adjustment is not in the plastic filter cover, but in the handle itself which is black and hard to notice. Why they put it there is beyond me but it should have one.

They put it there because it has to line up with the carb...not much choice in where to put it :D
