The 028 is a pro quality saw with split cases. The 025/MS250 is moderate duty design featuring clamshell construction. For occasional use either is fine. For serious firewood gathering the 028 is a more durable saw, but weighs a bit more than the MS250. I enjoy running my 028 and until my 550XP came along it was my grab it first saw.

Thanks for the reply. I currently have a MS250, 361, 391, and 192T. I was offered a 028 that was straight gassed for free. I'm trying to figure out if it is time to send the 250 down the road and rebuild the 028 as a replacement small saw. I think I'd like the deal alot better if it were an 026.

to me theres no comparing the two.the 028 is twice the saw of the 025\ms250.i just dont get along with the clamshell stihls.

Don't let the pro saw snobs fool ya'
There's a BaJillion clamshell Stihls out there doing what they do best, cutting wood day after day after day.
The 028WB is a fine saw but outdated by far.
The MS250 is lighter and faster in the cut.
The only 028 I might choose would be an 028Super.

But between the 2 saws you asked about?
The MS250 hands down.

I like your lineup the way it is. The 028 might be a fun project and then see which you like better, though.

I kinda like the line-up. In the future I see a 026/260 replacing the 250. I see the 391 leaving for something in the 70cc plus range.

The 028 would be fun project. I might do it then sale it to someone down on their luck for cost. Kinda the pay it forward of saws.

Back in 91 when I bought my 028 Super it was quite a saw. I had it rebuilt and ported last year. But it is very heavy/bulky compared with a modern saw.
