MS261CM Diacontinued?

Howdy Y’all. First time posting but have gained a lot of knowledge from poking around here. Thanks!

I am trying to purchase a new MS261CM from my local dealer and am being told Stihl has discontinued their production and that I can only purchase a MS261C. Does anyone have information on this? Is this the truth?

Welcome to the forum. Stihl's website shows it current. My dealer has them in stock. Maybe you road trip and get one!
I'm sure the Stihl experts will chime in soon
Until then take a look at Husqvarna's 550xp mk 2.

I just bought one about a month ago, my MS 261 C-M just has "MS 261 C" on the side of the saw.

You would think a dealer would know the difference. C or CM, is still available.

Mystery solved. My dealer thought I wanted the 261CMQ. My 261C is on order.

Most dealer employees are trained to work the register. Tis up to the customers to pick the product, read the manual, know the features, pick a shopping cart with round wheels, find the restrooms, etc.

We have been doing it wrong for 40+ years. Always help pick out a unit with a few simple questions. Time to stop and become like the rest of the saw retailers (big box).

I would agree. I have also learned some expensive lessons about how worthless many of their service departments are.
