Flywheel Removal - There is no way to use a wheel puller, Shop manual says to use some special doodad and hit it with a hammer ? Is that doodad an extended capped nut ?
Problem #2 - The 4 bolts that hold the jug on are really tight, Im getting a torx socket for my socket wrench but am afraid I might bust a bolt. Any hints on how to remove them safely?

Hi Glenn,

Flywheel Removal - Stihl does make a special tool, but it is possible to get it off via other methods. This is the method I have used in the past with good success.
1) Loosen the flywheel nut so it is flush with the end crank.
2) Take a pair of pliers or visegrips and gently grab a hold of one of the flywheel fins and hold the chainsaw (flywheel side up).
3) Place a socket over the flywheel nut and tap it with a rubber mallet and the flywheel should pop off.

Cylinder removal - The 4 bolts holding the cylinder assembly in are usually fairly tight. I've removed a lot of these and have never broke one. Also remember you need to remove the rear bar stud and the coil wires that are grounded to the flywheel side in order to pull the cylinder assembly off.

The 029-039 flywheels are just tapped off. The special tool in this case is just a thread protector. NOTE: NOT for other saws with long tapered crank/flywheel fit.

Loosen the nut and undo it so the crank threads are protected. Hold the saw OFF THE BENCH BY THE FLYWHEEL in your left hand, tap the crank nut firmly with a small brass hammer. The flywheel will just pop off.

It's important to hold the flywheel (not the saw) to get the shock action correct and not damage the bearings.

success

I had a hard time till I put the heat gun on it and warmed it up a bit , then it just popped off real easy. I suppose I was afraid to tap it too hard.

Where can I get an good pic on takeing the jug off, if I was to take it off and put it back on what kind of gasket is there? replace or reuse? thanks alot

I got a shop manual (pdf) from a guy on this site. It was an easy (but takes some time) teardown but basically you remove everything from the saw before the jug comes off. As far as I can tell there is no gasket just a silicone like substance . If you look at the pictures on the thread called "Read my Piston if you can" you can see this reddish orange stuff on the bottom of the jug.
