My dealer has a 361 w/ 'DEMO UNIT!!' sticker on it. Asked my buddy there about it and he turns and asks the owner about it. Owner says they don't discount demo's but then saw me and said - do whatever you need to sell it! :)

The demo has never been 'demo'ed' (no gas or oil). Has a 20" Farm Boss bar on it and the chain is on BACKWARDS (maybe normal for a demo for safety?). 20" FB bar had it ever so slightly nose heavy. Might be a good thing for firewood, but I really think an 18" bar would do me just fine.

I haven't talked dollars w/ my buddy yet - they were really busy and I just wanted to lay the ground work...plus I was pricing some 2stroke yard equip. for my mother-in-law to pick up on Friday and I'd like to give 'em that sale before haggling further on the 361. ;)

Any ideas what they could really sell it for? $549 is on the 'new' 361's. $499 would be nice...w/ the 18" bar.

Guess I could tell 'em to make thier profit off the yard equip. on Friday... No...my inlaws are actually pretty cool...

What chain would you guys recommend? Don't need the most aggressive and don't want to be fighting kickback unnecessarily as this'll get used for everything my cs3000 doesn't do. Is the RSC3 a compromise chain?

TIA,

Chaser

I think $499 would be a good price, and if he's selling it as a demo I'd guess he'd do it for that or maybe even less. As far as chain, the RS is good and that new low vibe RSC that Stihl has out now. Haven't tried it yet. I wouldn't mess with any kind of low kickback chain.

My new MS361 was supposedly $589.00 and they sold it to the non profit organization that I work for as a volunteer, for $569.00. That was with a 20" 3/8 x .063 bar and chain. Dealer had to special order it, so maybe the price included UPS shipping as well??? This is a Texas Stihl dealer.

Sounds to me like you got a better dealer. If you can get it for $500 I think its a good buy. I really like the saw.

I was using it today on some soft pine, that was about 16" thick at least. Friends had similar muffler mods on their saws; but, the 361 was several seconds faster than the 036 Pro (which never bogged down) and a 026 Pro. In addition to the speed advantage, the cut was very noticably smoother with the 361. I'm guessing due to less vibration??

The 361 has springs instead of rubber mounts, which cut down on a GREAT deal of the vibration, so

There's one on ebay right now for $600 Buy it Now price, and it includes an extra chain, no shipping charge and heavy duty pawls. When you consider no sales tax, that's not too bad of a buy. Wish I was a rich man, yadda yadda yah. Would just collect them. ha!

As Jeff said, RSC is what I use on mine.

There has been some interesting development in Stihl chain lately. First they copied the low-wib feature that Oregon has used for a while (RSC, RMC), and now the have close to copied the anti kickback feature of the Oregon LP and VP chain also (RSC3).
Maybe some Oregon controlled patents has ran out?

The LP and VP chain is fast-cutting chain, so I have reason to believe the RSC3 is too. I haven't tried it though.

I have a 18" Rollomatic E on mine at the moment, and it balances just about perfect, but I don't think that it would be much off-balance with a 20" either.
