I've got a ms361 that quit oiling, I took it apart, cleaned and the oiler, and found nothing broken. I re-assembled the saw and it's oiling, but not much.

Anybody seen this?

thanks..

Unless it's changed, it should be a flathead screw to adjust the oil flow. On the bottom, look at the "seam" between the metal case, and the plastic handle. There's a receess with a flathead screw down in it. Molded into the surface is an "E" That's your oiler. I don't know what you'd call it, but next to the "E" is a little indicator showing which way to turn the screw.

If you can't find it, I'll get a pic posted up.

This isn't the best pic, but I had it on my computer already anyway. If you look carefully, on the plastic handle portion in the middle you can see the recess cut out. It's down from the clutch, pretty much inline with it.

Yup, found it. I turned it to wide open, thanks.

This is my first chance to get a good look at a 361, seems like a decent saw. It's oiling better now, must have had some dirt somewhere. I put it back together without really fixing anything, just a good cleaning.

My 361's both have stingy oilers. If you continue to have problems, as Lakeside Andy has often said, take off the chain guard cover, bar and chain; start the engine and hit the throttle a few times and see if oil is coming out of the oil line from the oil tank. If it is, you are OK. If its not pumping OK, then further investigation of the line, filter, pump, etc are warranted. Lets hope the adjustment solves your problem.

And there is always the possibility of the oil hole in the bar being clogged, or the groove in the bar being full of chip dust. I clean and air blow my bars each time they are used.

I did exactly that, no bar & chain, no oil at all. I took it apart, the white plastic gear looked good, so did the other gear, everything looked OK. I put it back together and it started working.

Just be aware that the oiliomatic system of Stihl bar & chains "conseal" the oil amount put out a bit, and puts it where really needed, not at the side of the bar.
The saws oil a bit better than it often looks like......

I'm now on my 2nd 361 oiler and probably need a 3rd one.

After a full tank of premix, my oil tank is only down maybe 3 ounces  so you're not alone.

I guess Stihl wants to sell more bars! :jester:

I second the opinion that the 361 is stingy with oil. I've turned mine all the way up, and there is still plenty of oil left when I run low on mix. I've checked the bar and chain after cutting for awhile, and neither is getting hot so I guess there is plenty of oil flowing to do what needs to be done.

All I've cut with the new 361 so far is a bunch of oak tops off my clearcut area. The largest of these have been about 20" down at the butt, just a little bigger then my bar. I've got a 26" hickory dying in the woodlot, so I'll find out if it's oiling enough in a few weeks when I bury the bar in that one. (I may post some pics of it before I flop it, it is a leaner and the only place to fall it is right in line with the lean. It will be more of a technical cut than I usually do.)

Did you happen to have the clutch drum off, before?
and may have not got the pump arm back in the slot
of the drum.
