MS461 piston windows question

Ok I'm working on rebuilding a MS461. I'm looking over the piston to clean up the flashing etc. I don't understand the purpose of the windows, can someone explain how they work in this cylinder and how they relate to the upper transfers. The lower transfer is a single port below the exhaust port... I'm thinking the piston windows on this cylinder design the only purpose is to reduce weight.

The windows in a 461 piston don’t do anything but potentially allow some oil to hit the wrist pin bearing and flow through the windows back into the case or lower transfers. They have nothing to do with the upper transfers

Thanks you.... what I thought in this designed of P&C. I'll cleanup the casting and bevel the edge I need to on this Meteor piston.
