MS660 clutch eclip keeps falling off

Help Support Arborist Forum:
Clutch drum isn't fully seated,
Using the wrong washer that slips in before the E-Clip,
The grove the clip fits in is dirty,
The clip can be bent or wrong size,
Never had this issue, any pictures?

Make sure the clutch drum bearing is good.
I'll put my money on a worn clip groove or clutch shell bearing. If the clutch drum/shell isn't seated, I don't think you could get the jesus clip and washer on. jmho Let is know what you find.

This issue was on here on another Stihl saw just a year or so back, it became evident what the problem was once the pics showed up.
If you can spin the OEM clip easily after install, it will come off. If this happens, time to check the crank groove. The outside washer that is a solid milled piece would also be a better choice than the stamped piece.
When removed, the clip may have been sprung outwards and weakened. Then when you replaced it, the clip had no compression force to hold it in place inside the groove on the shaft,
All speculation and guesswork until pics are put up.
