mulberry

last fall a friend took down a huge mulberry on his family farm and we milled it up. got some nice spalted slabs out of it. it's still in dry mode now, so i can't say how it will work but i do think that i should look very nice when finished. from what i've heard the golden hue turns to brown over time but still looks good. apparently mulberry is sought after in japan. anyways, it mills up nicely. i say go for it. :chainsaw:

Had a big piece of storm damage mullberry come down this week.

I think I can get a few millable sections out of it and the heartwood seems to have a nice color grain.

Anybody have uses experience with mullberry?

Over the years, i've milled several mulberry and i like the way it looks. Mulberry around here, usally aren't very big, so the lumber makes good small project wood...

This one came from my brothers yard,

A segmented bowl made with Mulberry

I have attached a photo (first time, so not sure if it worked) of a segmented bowl I made, all the light colored wood is mulberry (mostly sapwood). This wood was from a tree limb that I milled on my bandsaw. The wood planed really nice and looks great.

I milled a couple of nice 12" diameter 6' long logs a couple of years ago. it reminds me a lot of osage orange in color and hardness. it even turns the same brown color as osage orange as it ages. It is a tone wood and steam bends well. I havn't made anything with my stash so that about all I can add about it other than it is a bit prone to movement while drying.
