My 036 Dual Port Muffler Design

Ordered a non-OEM muffler to see if I could make a nice dual port muffler for my 036. I think my results are pretty good for a first attempt. I still need to source some stainless steel screen to pinch between the housing and the baffle plate. I guess that will be tomorrow's project. Couldn't decide where the new inner baffle would be located, so some areas have too much material removed. Now that I know where it best fits, I'll make another one after I give this one a few hours on the saw.

Won't it shoot straight at the tree? Have a saw like that, it's started fires before. (caught before it got serious)

The mufflers on the Stihl 362 have forward facing exhaust ports, as does my early production waffle front 026 saw. With a screens and a defected path gas flow, it should be OK.

Maybe we should have a contest to identify the piece used to make the baffle.<LOL>
First hint, it's available at most home improvement/hardware stores and you might even have one right now in your home.

Cut up a kitchen strainer to make a screen for the front ports. A little too coarse, but fine for now.

No, but I did look there.
A large saw might be able to use a single wide metal GFIC face plate, but the store only had double wide face plates on hand. Nice thing about those is that they have holes in each corner for mounting screws.

Yes, its a pocket door handle. $2.97 at the local hardware store and I went with the nickel finish for the added corrosion protection.

Looking good. I don't like front outlets, but yours should work just fine.
On the last 036 I built, I added a deflector to the fly side, then open and capped the PTO side full length so the case didn't keep getting dirty.
