I got the non Hemi version of the 212cc 6.5hp engine last fall and put it on my splitter a home built unit from the mid 1970's replacing a problem child 8hp B/S.

What an impressive engine, plenty of power to split the toughest wood, easy to start one to two pulls at the most unless it is below zero then it takes a couple extra pulls. It is also really easy on gasoline I have ran it as long as 28 hours on one tank. Did I mention plenty of power I normally run it no more than half throttle.
I highly recommend this engine but being my first I do buy the 2 year extended no questions asked warranty.

I have since bought a hemi version for a snow blower, Very impressed every time I use it.

You can tell the Hemi version by the valve cover, Pressed steel for the Non Hemi version Idem # 69730 . cast alum for the Hemi version Idem # 60363. They sell hop up kits for them where you can get as much as 26hp out of them if your into that.

:D Al

Impressive engines, thats all I ever use on my rental splitters customer friendly, simple, cheap , quick change if need be

I own a HF pressure washer and I love it. Predator engine just starts and runs great... I could have spent more but this does everything I want it to. I also got the 2 year warranty as well. Friend has a generator same thing works great. When my snowblower engine dies or I feel the need for more hpv I will do the same. I assume it's an easy engine swap. Talk about tinker ingredients HF is like going to Cabelas. Haha

HF is way better than Cabala's. Doesn't put you in sticker shock nor make you feel gouged when you check out.
Plus HF is a working mans store and Cabala's is for city slicker yuppies.

:D Al

Big new Cabelas here, opened a year ago. I was in it once. Sticker shock is right - damned place was packed though. Hard to figure - seemed to attract those whole like to wander around stuffed animals & picture themselves in the woods or something. I left without buying anything & drove back to my home in the woods.

How did you get it to run for 28 hours?? Wow!

I can't say I agree with you...

First of all, I like Cabelas and I'm about as far from being a "city slicker yuppie" as a human can get!

Why do I like Cabelas? Because UNLIKE HF, they actually sell things of a bit HIGHER quality! Most of HF "stuff" is junk, most of Cabelas "stuff" if pretty good quality!

I use to buy clothing where ever I could find a deal, but the shirts/coats I buy from Cabelas are MUCH better quality, fit me MUCH better and in many cases, much better designed. AND, yes at a higher cost, BUT, there's LOT'S of ways to counter the cost!

For one thing, Cabelas has good sales and LOT'S of them, also they send "Cabelas Bucks" to their customers, and then there's "Cabelas points", plus you can use them all together on one item! That adds up to some pretty good deals for QUALITY items!

Another thing I like is, "selection" and their return policy... If I don't like something they take it back or just let me replace it.

We drive to a Cabelas about once a month and usually go out to supper while we are in town, plus hit what other stores we want while there...

To run for 28 hours on one tank of fuel.
(1. I filled the tank full.
(2. started it up allowed to idle a bit to warm up.
(3. set throttle to half and split a trailer load of wood about 3 hours.
(4. Hauled several loads of wood up to be split repeated #2 and 3
(5. split wood for about 8 hours.
(6. repeated #2and 3 again
(7. Split wood for about 9 hours
(8. repeated # 2 and 3 again
(9. Split wood for another 8 hours and finished just as the engine ran out of fuel and quit.

I repeat HF is a working mans store with some really good stuff and plenty of tools with life time warranty's.
Cabelas is High priced dodads and clothing store that can be found in other stores cheaper so caters to yuppies. You also do not find Cabela's stores very far form the big cities of states. If I were to shop one of their stores I would not only have to eat supper out but get a motel room and eat breakfast out to make the many hour drive back home. While I am not a fan of Gander Mountain either they have a Store in UP of Michigan at least.

I don't have a close Cabelas, I also don't have a close HF...

I'd like to know where you can find "Cabelas quality" cloths for less money? I'd be HAPPY to go to one of those stores! Generally I get the cloths I buy at Cabelas for half price or less, so that puts the price right where it should have been in the first place.

To me, if I have to keep using a tool makers warr., I'd rather just buy a better tool in the first place! I have lot's of tools, most are old Craftsman tools, back when theirs were better too. I do have some high priced spread tools too, but only specialized tools or tools that were crapsman and kept breaking, so I moved up the ladder to a better brand.

IF you don't have to depend on your tools, and live next to HF, have at it! AND yes, HF does have some better products too, but you have to really know what you are buying when you go there...

BTW, I do stop in at HF when I go to Cabelas, as they aren't all that far apart. I think I'd stop to HF more, IF they sold guns and ammo too... lol

To know where to steer you I need to know what brand clothing you are buying from Cabela;s? Cabelas label on it? Which Chinese company makes it for them?

Seems to me you need to know what your buying where ever you go for any thing.

:D Al

Now Al, you know that you can get everything from good stuff to absolute junk from china, depending on what the buyer specs..., just like those china motors you like...

BUT, I just looked at the Cabelas brand insulated shirts, coats and gloves that I have, and not one was made in china, they weren't made in USA either...

The other day, when I was at Cabelas, I bought an (new) S&W Shield for $345.00, how was that price??

My wife bought a really nice $159.00 dollar insulated camo winter coat, and after the sale price and discounts, it cost her 20 bucks! How was that price??

Their quality is very good on their cloths and you just need to learn how to shop there! There's all kinds of "deals" there, IF you know how to get them!

The only reason I would go to Cabelas is if I needed to buy a high end fishing rod such as a finesse jigging rod. You need to buy those by feel and I find it best to compare several rods back to back.

I've got three predators, one still in the box, it's the 6.5 hp motor, I'll be using it to repower an old 50's vintage simplicity walk behind tractor running a sickle bar. My other 6.5 powers an HF wood splitter, been using the splitter pretty hard for a couple years now and it still works great. A 3 hp predator repowers a Craftsman tiller that originally came with a Tecumseh motor. The Tecumseh blew up after a couple years use when the bolts backed out of the ignition module which dropped down and hit the flywheel, or hit the fan so to speak, tearing the motor up completely. So far, I'm impressed with these very inexpensive engines.

What happened to the "dislike" button? It appears Mr Yooper is not a Cabella's biggot and perhaps you and your family are. He is like 10's of millions of other happy Harbor Freight customers. . .and knows good deals/products when he see's them.

Lighten up dude, I consider Al my friend, we post on more than this forum together... lol

I had no idea I would be a "biggot" for having a friendly disagreement with someone I happen to like...

You on the other hand, you make a terrible first impression! lol

Ya I knew Drilling Man before I knew Sawyer Rob. I just got to laugh if any one is a bigot on Cabela's it would be me. I just think they are to expensive for me to buy stuff from them. 99% of my work cloths are carhart and Duluth trading company stuff. So many carhart dealers in my area they seem to always be running a price war. I did buy a work mule coat similar to carhart Once was on end of winter sale for $35.00 Hangs in the closet only part of one winters use and the zipper is gone bad. I should search out a upholster shop and have them install a new industrial zipper.
Most of my hunting stuff is Walls blizzard proof, Woolrich and Columbia's. I really like the double layered Columbia coats but their bib are sucky. There is both a Woolrich and Columbia out let store a few minutes from me.

I got a flyer from HF yesterday and the 6.5 212cc engine is on sale for 99.00 again from the normal 119.00 it has been for a bit. I also know there is some real junky junk sold at HF just like any place.

:D Al

I'm a BIG fan of "fire hose" pants, that's what I wear, especially their insulated ones that I wear all winter... lol I'm also a BIG fan of Carhartt's, been wearing them in cold weather, for many many years too...

I have two cheaper camo insulated winter coats, both need zippers, they broke after one year. NOW, I'm wearing a Cabelas camo insulated winter coat, it fits me better and the zipper is still like new, and one year has passed.

As for those $99.00 HF motors, I have 3 of them in mini bikes and a new one still in the box, for "just in case"... lol

Only thing about hf is that to get the best deals, have to watch the coupon ads for a while and learn when it's cheapest.

The small predator generators range from $89 to $129 depending on coupon. Same for my tool chest, $319 to $349. Luckily for that one, was able to apply the coupon 30 days after purchase.

Both have been great purchases so far, as has been most of the stuff I've bought from there.

The best way to shop at HF is to go online and check the reviews on the item before you buy. Some of the stuff is high quality at a great price, some of it is crap that will fail after a few uses. And some of it can be made to be good if you have a shop and can make some modifications. An example is a needle scaler I bought, apparently from a bad batch. When I hooked it up to the air hose, all it did was hiss. I took it apart and discovered that the piston in it was machined too large and couldn't move in the cylinder. I took the piston out, stuck it in a drill press, and spun it while wrapping fine grit sandpaper around it. After about 15 minutes, it was a good fit, and the scaler has worked fine for me ever since. A comparable size Ingersol Rand scaler costs around $100. The HF scaler cost me $20. So I was still quite pleased with my purchase.
