Thought I would share with you a tree my I got to use my new 441 on recently. A gentleman that comes into work over heard me talking about firewood and said he had an old dead tree I could have. Turned out to be the red oak you see in the pic.
Felling it was not too big of a challenge, other than it was on the big end of trees I usually fell, and it was on the shoulder of the road. If I messed up the drop, it would land on the road and I would have a big mess to clean up quick. It's not a very busy road by any means, and in a rather rural area. I setup road cones to block traffic when I made the back cut, and of course some idiot know it all drove right through them. Blame either being rushed, or perhaps the first time out with the 32" bar, but I boogered the back cut as you can see. Started out good on my side, then let the cut drop on the far side of the tree. Used some good wedge technique that I picked up from here, and that old tree lay down just as perfect as I could have hoped for right on the high side of the ditch. A lot of the trunk ended up as cookies and then chunks thanks to my Fiskars. I hate picking up heavy wood.
The 32" bar has since been returned to it's place on my shop wall till the next big one. That's a lot of bar to tote around in these parts, an a 25" does me much better. Enjoy!

Yep, it's a little warm these days. I've cut every weekend for most of the summer. Probably won't go out today because of the temp. Perhaps tomorrow in the AM before it warms up much. Next week and the one after look real nice for cutting if the predictions hold true.

Glad to see that you got it down with no problems.

Don't ya just love to use the big saws. Well maybe not big to some people but big to me.

We have finally gotten some hot weather here in western NY. All summer we have had cold and rain.
Was out cutting with my 441 yesterday, almost passed out in the heat.
Oppressive.

Keep drinking water.

Good luck with the 441, you'll love the saw. I love mine!!!
Gotta clean her up after yesterday's cutting, was too tired to do that last night.

I was surprised how well my 441 pulled a 32" but have to agree it's perfect with a 24". Looks like you didn't cut through the hinge to awfully bad but you did come in pretty low on your back cut. I'm teaching my son how to drop trees and I use the chain like a marking pencil to draw a line where I want his backcut to be, if your in doubt on the larger trees it's a trick that works very well. Now you get to the fun part, splitting it.

Looked like a good drop to me! Last week Dad and I took down a big Red Oak in our back fence row. Got my bird's mouth lookin' good, but the back cut was a monster to get as I had to cut up high to avoid any old barb hiding in the tree and I'm sure trying to lift the 084 up that high with a 30'b.c. didn't help any either. Next time I'll just chain it to the tractor bucket! JJ

Yep it's on the ground and leaving the extra material on left of the tree was precisely perfect to spin the tree in the ditch versus being on the road. Falling trees is a lifetime learning experience and there's always somthing you can learn from other pros. I hope your backs good if your splitting that the old fashioned way though.

That old tree was split before it left the ditch. I'm not a fan of lifting big wood, so I cut 10" cookies from the bigger sections. Being red oak, the Fiskars chunks them up real quick and with little effort. I'll have to go out and take a pic of my chunk pile. All the crotches, y's, shorts, and big round chunks end up their and burnt first. The "perfect" oak firewood gets stacked and sold.

I love my 441 also, this spring I worked up a big white oak blow down and used a 28" bar on mine and it worked great. I have since got a new 660 and a very good used 056 Mag II. I have opened up the exhaust on my 441 and it seemed to help the power. Love those big oaks;)

Nice, very nice.

How do you guys like your 441s? I need a bigger saw!

Of course, I have no money, but I still need a bigger saw! :D

I use mine with a 25" bar and except for being up in the air or limbing my 441 does 80% of my bucking. I bought a 660 which I thought I might use quite a bit and it still has the made in germany sticker on the front. It's nice to have a saw that powerful but it really is overkill for what I do at work. I use a 372 with a 20" to block up big limbs when the 192 peters out but the 441 runs so much longer on a tank of gas I alwyas seem to find it in my hands.
