This apple tree has been on my property for about 25 years or more. just a few weeeks ago the bark looks like it is twisted and coming off in very large strips ( greater then 24" long and about 4 inches wide) the wood under neath look perfect except for a few cracks. It is moist and looks healthy. What can i do to help it?
Thank you!

A picture would help.....Hard to say.If it's a small section that one thing. If the entire trunk is shedding thats another thing. If it's a small area leave it be.Trees have defense mechanisms. And in fact when spring arrives That area may produce a callus and cover that area.Good luck

Hard to say just without pics

Your best bet is to find a reputable tree service, preferably with a cert. arborist or botanist/horticulturist on staff. If they're a good tree service, they'll come out and take a look at the tree for free and tell you what, if anything, should be done. Once they tell you their recommendations, post them here and we'll tell you if we think they're reasonable or if it looks like they're trying to milk you.
