Is the clutch spring/s weak clutch slip will make it smoke or a lot of oil gunge around the clutch would produce smoke when it got hot Suggest remove clutch/sprocket clean regrease needle bearing & reassemble/refit with new clutch spring/s

Sorry didn't word that very well put in springs but they would work opersite if weak never the less try a clutch strip/clean

Also double check the chain brake. Not familiar with your model saw, but some the brake could still be on even though at the handle/guard it's off, if linkage is broken or missing

The Op said a couple of posts back the chain moved around the bar OK That would point to the brake not dragging?Check inside clutch cover for signs of the clutch/sprocket catching/rubbing on the case. Clutch cover not full of noodled chippings? They smoke & catch fire loverly

Are you lugging the engine down when cutting? If you load the engine too much, the rpm will drop to the point where the clutch will start to slip and will get REAL hot. Had a friend who blistered the clutch cover by cutting this way.
