Looks like you did good, I picked up one off of Craigslist last week w/ a 32" bar for a good price. I haven't had much time to run it since it's been so stinkin' hot but it seems like it has a bit more torque than my MS660.

Here's a family portrait w/ it's big brother, I swapped the bars so the 32" is on the 3120, and the 20" is on the 395.

Holy cow, that 3120 is huge... that 32"'er looks like it's only about 18" :dizzy:

The 20" bar on the 3120 looks just right!

Ring Compressor

In a pinch, you can get by without any ring compressor at all. I've done it two ways:

Start the piston/ring assy in the jug on the bench, just barely. Leave the piston pin bore out. Carefully set the crank to TDC, assemble piston pin, install circlips (that's gudgeon clips if you're a Brit, LOL)

Install piston to Rod, and worry the rings into place.

Either method requires strong fingernails or maybe a wooden stick to worry the rings back into the groove a little at a time, and depends on the piston being able to "cock" in the bore by a teeny amount. But it has worked for me a number of times.

I have done it every which way and what I generally use is a wire tie. Locate the pin in the ring land and orient the tie so that where it come together is right over the pin so you can see the ring is lined up correctly. piece of cake slide the cyl down and cut the wire tie off. No muss no fuss cost less than pennys a pop.

I know, I know, Farmer/Fisherman ways but it's cheap and works very well.

When you say "wire tie" I'm assuming you are talking about a "zip strip" or "zip tie" or whatever??

I thought about using one of those too... but never tried it.

Problem solved!

Yes exactly just get one that is wide enough to cover the ring. On two ring pistons it will slide right down and compress the lower ring as well or use two. Just orient it so you can see the ring ends through the space where the tie comes together making sure the rings are compressed around the pin in the ring land correctly and your good to go. I usually cut two small (varies with different saws) blocks of wood to go under the piston on either side of the con rod and hold the piston at TDC while getting the rings/piston into the cyl. So I don't have to chase piston all around trying to get the cyl on.

Brake cleaner, and compressed air. :givebeer: :chainsaw: :greenchainsaw:

a friend of mine sells the cleaner- orange tko. the stuff is incredible and its biodegradeable and non toxic i use it on my saws and they come out looking like yours. i suggest everyone try it. it works awsome on tree sap as well and it smells very orangy. if any one is interested its www.healthyhomesonline.com

i prefer the smell of non-chlorinated brake cleaner.

:agree2: I have not had to rebuild a chainsaw yet, but I have done many 2 smoke motocross bikes this way, it works slick.

well, if thats what you prefer but that stuff is no good for ya to breathe.

i try to avoid the vapors..............there are dozens of orange cleaners out there and they all seem to work about the same. some just hype their capabilities, making astounding claims and charging way more than a generic. this is a tatic used often with infomercial/sold-at-home products.

Thanks!

I can't wait until this fall, and get it in some big wood. It will be a real change for me to go into the woods with 3 saws instead of just 1... I hope the ol' 55 doesn't feel rejected :) Heck, it might feel relieved... that little 55 has been a trooper.

Just ordered my 32" bar last night along with a couple loops of chain, and some other stuff from Bailey's.

Won't be long until it's time to start cutting wood again!

Well, finally got my 395xp in some wood today, and all I can say is "HOLY ****!!! WHAT A SAW!!!"

Noodled apart a bunch of big 28-30" red oak rounds cut 20" long for my Dad... I was really impressed, and I think he was twice as impressed as I was. That saw is relentless... it does NOT slow down!!! Went through those rounds like a hot knife through soft butter... big piles of noodles...FUN FUN FUN!!! I wish I would have had my camera to take some pics/video for the "noodle" thread... but I didn't.

Dad is a Stihl guy... but now that he's seen some Husky Power in action... we'll see what happens now :greenchainsaw:

Next, since you now have a big saw, you'll be thinking about stuff like this:

Congrats on the saw. I love my 394.
