With no apologies to Chevy Chase.... :)

We started in Berlin, where my brother got married. Berlin is kind of boring, as far as European capitals go. Constantly under construction, still, almost 20 years after reunification.... My brother's father-in-law loves me though: I told him I loved three things German: beer, cars and chainsaws. Made his day...

Anyways, smack dab in the middle of Berlin is the Fernsehturm - a TV tower the DDR put up 40-odd years ago (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernsehturm). The observation level (gold window level) is 200+ meters up. The day we were there, the window washer was out. Kind of funny explaining to my mom that this guy was out there on a single line.

Evidently, he was freaking people out when he would pop into view but I always seemed to be on the wrong side when that would happen. :bang:

From Berlin, we went to Paris. Here's what a 54 Euro ($70) breakfast looks like in Paris: tea, juice, cereal, fruit bowl, yoghurt and bread for two. Since I spend 100 nights a year in Marriott hotels, they comp me breakfast. Dieu Merci!

The best view of the Eiffel Tower was actually from the ferris wheel in the tuileries:

Ever wonder how they get trees trimmed perfectly round? Well, since France is rather socialist, it takes 3 guys (count them): 2 to hold the template and one to cut....

Here's what 900 years of footsteps looks like at the Notre Dame:

After 4 days of rain in Paris, off to Spain on the glorious TGV. My wife's piano teacher is from San Sebastian, just across the French border on the Bay of Biscay - in the heart of Basque Country. If I didn't love the US so much, this would be where we would live. Absolutely beautiful. Of course, it's the most expensive place in Spain.

Here's the city's cathedral in early evening:

The week we were there was their Semana Grande (Big Week). Fireworks every night:

They also run the Fire Bulls each night - the kids love it:

There is also dancing and music in various venues all over town. Here's a little tango action. Not the most classic of poses, but (to me) the cheekiest...
