I finaly got time to mill some cedar that came down during huricane Ike 2 years ago. This was my first time to run a CSM, it was awsome!!! I can tell already I need a bigger SAW, but the 390 did great. I used a regular Stihl chain cut to 5*, was amazed at how smooth it cut.

I would also like to thank everyone on here for posting up all the good advice that got me going.

cut speed

It seems pretty quick? The slabs in the pic are about 12 to 16 inches wide and about 4.5 to 5 feet long. I could finish a cut in about 5 minutes. It did slow down some towards the end as the chain dulled.

good stuff man! that cedar looks great. milling's a blast ain't it? looks like you had a good time, and that shiner bock doesn't hurt. they have that on tap at my favorite bar down the road. :D

If that's true, it works out to 0.20" inch/sec, not exactly blazing speed, but you gotta start somewhere.

Nice cedar, it would make a dandy cedar chest.

Good work FB.

Drill a hole in the guide board just before the starting end of the log and once your mill is past this point drop a bolt through the hole. The bolt should be long enough to reach past the cut board and connect with the log end. This will stop the guide board and cut board sliding off the log.
