Here's the first log stand I ever built. Keep in mind I have never even seen one let alone cut wood using one.

THe cradle will accommodate a 8" cant or round wood. It quite strong and still light enough that I can move it myself. Can someone shrink these pictures and I'll replace them in my post so the modem users don't hate me?!

straps

good thing other wise looks good and great idea for one .
I just use the grapple on my skid loader and it does great no mader what size or height!

Reduced the digital noise a little as well. Kodak CX4200's are notorious for high noise in low light or high iso.

Most later model digital cameras can export what's called EXIF data embedded in the picture file. This data tells how your camera was set for the associated picture. What came along with your first picture shows that your 4200 was set for ISO 140, 3 bits per pixel compression, shutter speed of 1/30 second, taken on 03/13/04 @ 21:31:10, profile is sRGB, 399 X 700 pixels, flash was used, f/4.5 aperature and a focal length (zoom setting) of 6.0mm.

It's for speed cuts. The design saw chosen so it could handle an 8" square piece of wood or a "cant". Using cants takes the variables out of the wood that would come from using logs. Though it can accommodate logs.

Hi Sedanman, nice job on the cradle. If in a bind, one could use a load binder and chain to secure the log, as opposed to straps.

nice job paul. i will send you an e-mail with pics and ideas to take the whobble out of your stand. it will not be to bad with smaller saws but the bigger saws will chatter and pull that thing around like crazy. marty

You might try experimenting with the height. It looks a little high compared to what I've used, but I like the design. It is suprising how much vibration a saw will cause. If I have too much log hanging out of my stand, it will vibrate and whip back and forth, but that is with 3' or more hanging over. I could cure this with another strap over the log, but have just kept overhang to about 3' or less. The log has to lay in the stand well, the more contact the better.
