I'm looking for a new wood furnace.

I checked out the Charmaster and the Yukon's and both have good reviews, what about the Napoleon hybrid's?

So far I'm for the Charmaster but the price scares me.

The Yukon, the salesman was a total jerk .

I have a 4000 sq house that needs heated. Any other furnaces that you guys recommend?

Thanks Ryan

I've only read of a couple of people who had them from that they liked them. I'm just not sure the 150 is large enough. When dealing with that much square footage, you will need a large furnace and with that comes a bigger price. We heat with a Caddy, but that would be too small. The largest clean burning furnace that I know of is the Max Caddy made by PSG. Does that 4000 sf include basement, and how well is the house built insulated? That will make quite a difference.

4000 sf dose include basement. Home was built in 1956. It's a two story with aluminum and metal single pane windows with two very large picture windows. It's a brick home with plaster walls with insulation in the attic.

Napoleon did come out with a bigger furnace the HMF200 but not much info.

The Nap furnaces are brand new to the market. Like any other appliances give them a year to work kinks out. Outside of that dont know much about them.

I am not aware of any wood burning furnace that could handle 4,000 Sq ft. The Max Caddy is rated for about 3,000 and there is some caveat to that.

Your house being an older one is likely to need more BTU than a newer one. First things first, get an HVAC guy in there to do a heat loss calculation and or test.

An alternative would be a pellet furnace. The Caddy Alterna will push up to 120,000 BTU steady. The CFM on the blower is 1,400 but that may not be enough for 4,000 sq ft.

However, your best bang for the buck is always insulate, insulate, insulate. Once that's done you can then look at alternative modes of heating.

Napoleon hybrids

Does anybody out there have a Napoleon Hybrid installed?

I too am interested in feedback from actual Napoleon Hybrid owners. We're into 2012 now and it's been on the market for about a year now if I'm not mistaken. It was back in Feb 2011 when I first heard about it.

Back then I spoke to a Napoleon rep at the Barrie location who mentioned that they had stopped shipping the hybrid with the thermal water heating lines built in. Also the website doesn't mention it anymore, but back in early 2011 the original brochure showed it. The rep said something about it not working so well, and I remember being disappointed because I thought it was such a great feature to have (for in-floor heating or hot water tank coil to help heat it etc.)

I actually use a Napoleon 100. My house is small. Not insulated very well. If the temp dips below zero, it struggles keeping up. I wish I would've gone with the 150.
I check my chimney from time to time, but since I've never had to clean my chimney until spring. Very clean burning. Other than being a bit small, I am very happy with my furnace. I know they market the 100 for cabins and such, witch is one reason it is a bit small for my application. Mine is in a non insulated basement and I lose alot of the radiant heat given off from the glass door. If it were in a living space, it would be plenty.
when I get into a bigger house, I will definitely look at the 150 and 200.
