Need bucket truck tech support

With the pilot controlled hyd cylinders, what is the method used to lower the booms when having a problem such as a hose failure or engine problem? At the base of the cylinders is the pilot operated control and it has a bolt with a locknut. Is this to be adjusted to release pressure and retract the cylinder by gravity? Thanks, LB
