I need a recoil for my Stihl 045 AV super. The one I purchased does not seem to want to go together. It gets super close but does not snap together the way I think it is supposed to. I've tried turning the flyweel and pull start to get it to mesh. No luck.

Any help or the right part would be appreciated. Let me know what you have how much etc. I'm in Ohio 43232 for shipping.

I'll poke around in the morning and see if I have exactly what you need.

I'd have to look at some of my documents to confirm, but I believe there was two types of starter pawls on that series of saw.

What you have is the Fairbanks Morse type friction starter instead of the clip/pawl type starter.

That flywheel is compatible with the clip/pawl like the modern Stihl saws as opposed to the antiquated Fairbanks Morse friction shoe type.

That is what I thought, I think I need the one with the single plastic pawl. Unfortunately I know just enough about this saw to get the wrong parts. I love my 031AV, 310 AND 020t. i Got this one with good spark and compression but I need to get it all put together. I thank you for the help and will be happy to buy parts from you here. I love arboristsite.
