anybody with good tips on using a chisel chain grinder? i just cant get my corner lined up.. seems like im either under the cutter real bad, or take the whole darn top off the cutter.. whats a good angle to dress the stone at?
i wish i had a manual to run this thing! could do with a fresh wheel too, but i want to be able to set it up before i destroy a new wheel. im totally clueless here.

if u are grinding round, not square, check the link below for instruction manual, they are pretty much all basically the same...alot of this style grinder are made by the same company painted different colors from what i found out. i believe most round chisel chain would be 60 degs on the swing arm, 30 degs on the top plate, and 10 degs on the vise angle.

hope this helps

grinder is a simington 450, chisel grinder. after destroying 2 chains guessing i need some advice before i try any other chains. my main issue is setting the dressers to get the proper angles on the wheel itself

when you say you can't get your corner lined up what exactly do you mean? are you trying to line it up from the point of the cutter to the inside corner of the cutter?

i trashed about 40 feet of chain so far trying to get my grinding right. it's alot of trial and error. i could get my chains to cut pretty sweet now but i feel i'm still only about 75% there.

Sounds like a similer grinder to mine. The stone is "round" It tends to stay that way with use. Every time you go to sharpen a chain flip the wheel around.

I simply set it so that it just takes off a little, and does not cut into the tie links.
Mark a tooth with a sharpie pen so you know where you started at. These grinders are not perfect, but it is a whole lot faster than filing!
New stones are available, get one if yours is too worn out.

its a silvey swing arm style grinder, for true chisel chain. what i need to do is get the wheel dressed to the right angles.. the way its facing the wheel now is taking the whole top of the cutting tooth to a backwards angle.. trying to turn the tooth into another raker. what i need to figure out is how tall of a flat edge i want on the wheel, what angle to make that edge, and how slanted i want the grinder wheel. im starting from scratch here.

for example say i put on a used messed up wheel, the stone dressers were totally off the machine.. how do i set up with this example in mind?

that did help a LOT! thanks. im getting close now.. but getting too comfortable just bit me hard.. didnt check to see if the tooth was against the stop.. whoops.. no more top plate left at all.. that was a fairly fresh chain too..

chug a chug chug a chug chug a chug........slow and steady. after 20 hours 3 wheels and 50 feet of chain you'll start to figure it out.

i sure hope so! theres actually a LOT to setting this thing up. i would love to find a manual or anything for the Simington 450. might give them a call again monday and see if they have one.
