Please see attached photo -- This seems to have been caused by a large fungus/mushroom growing on the tree over the winter and when I just went to remove it, I found this soft cavity. What can I do to address this situation? Thank You!

I can tell you it was a basidomycete decay but hard to tell which one without the actual fruiting body to help ID. This would also help with knowing its decay strategy and level of aggression. Appears like pretty advanced decay at this point.

Appears to have been decaying the wood from an old pruning wound or other wound.

An arborist well versed in wood decay mycology would be a good start.
