Got tired of waiting for a deal and purchased a 395XP with 36" bar and ripping chain. I have some cherry, white oak, hemlock, and elm that I plan to mill this spring. The largest width is 24-25" on the cherry and hemlock. Do I need to add an external oiler on the end of the Granberg or will the saw provide enough oil to safely mill the logs? At what bar length is an external oiler recommended? Thanks, Terry in Michigan

I'm in the same boat with the need of a external oiler. I think I will head down to the hardware store soon to round up valves and plastic 6" pipe parts to make a oiler. I would like to add a bicycle lever and cable to be able to turn on and off the valve to make the oil flow through the brass nipple to drip on the bar. A separate volume flow valve I think is also needed. I'm going to look at Home depot first.

Hemlock is deceptively tough on the cutters and oiling for a “softwood”.
I blank out a lot of Hemlock Timbres with a 3120 which probably oils similarly to a 395.
I never have trouble with oiling a 36” but do need to touch up cutters about every 20’ or so (18-26”wide).
Peeling bark first helps a lot with hemlock... it’s stubborn stuff when freshly fallen but the bark loosens nicely after a few months in the sun.

Thank you for the reply! I just received my 395XP today, dang this is a big saw! I use a 562XP for firewood, this saw is a beast. I haven't fired it up yet. I might need to get back into the gym and do some arm curls and shoulder shrugs! Andy...the manual states the 395 is set at "1" from the factory for oiling. Do you have a recommendation on what to set the oiler for a 36" bar? Thanks everyone

As to the oiler....Crank it all the way up with a 36”.... it won’t be too much oil for milling with that length of a bar.
These big cube saws....They seem big when you first get them in.... it will shrink after using it a few times.
Congrats and safe sawing!

To paraphrase Mick Dundee, "Saw, That ain't no Saw, This is a SAW"
