this is my 1st post here. i have been climbing over 10 years with ropes and spikes. now i want 2 get a set of asenders. what are the best ones.
i live in a small town and we have no shops so i will have to order what ever i get and i want 2 be happy with it. i have seen fobar's i think that was it was called . in a order book.

2nd thing is i need 2 learn how to block trunk down to it's self. what do i need 2 buy to do this? i have ideas but i would rather have some one who knows what they r doing to help me out rather than me guess alot. thx

ok jeff maybe i asked wrong the 1st time

1st Q whats a good set of ascenders

2nd Q i dont know right term. you are doing a take down. you have all the limbs cut off. tree might be in deck or to close to house, plants, or just not enuff room 2 fall it. and it needs 2 be let down with a rope. Q is what kind of rigging would i need to get to do this?

Go to sherril tree. Link at top of page. Its like the Christmas catalog when you were a kid. I just use a petzl hand ascender and a foot ascender. The only ones I have ever used work fine but the foot ascender strap likes to creep out of the buckle.

As far as the rigging you may need. Rope 1/2" to 3/4 will be fine. Get a high wll. Block and sling combo and a porta wrap. that should get you started. groundie not included.

thx tackletree i went 2 sherril site and wow they have alot of stuff. i was thinking timberhitch and a pulley. but wow i will say it again they have alot of stuff to help. this will be great becuse i was wanting to get away from using spikes in the tree's i was trimming. i got a 3rd Q if any one can help i would be thankfull is there anywhere i can get a book on proper cuts i know some of them but not all and i love learning about this stuff. i wish i could go 2 school on this but with 2 kids and bills and all i do the best i can just keeping afloat

Something's not adding up here. 10 years of climbing and you spike while you are trimming, you've never seen a picture of a butt hitch or seen/heard of the Sherrill catalog? In the immortal words of Ricky Ricardo "Lucy, you have some splainin to do".

Man, you don't need to go to school, you need to work for someone who can teach techniques that have evolved since the 1940's.

BC ya i heard of sherrill before now i looked at one 2 weeks ago. well just one page when i got my rope. and i been climbing for 14 years. every thing i have had to learn on my own. working for some one who knows these techniques would have me driving 2 hours a day one way i know gas is down some but that is still 2 far. and on explaining myself wtf for? i was asking for help and the dumb ass remark u made to this post will not help me out a damn bit.

i have made my mind up on learning more. not going to let ur remark get me down. guess i will check out natlarb.com i looked there one time i think they had book that could be ordered

OK, you're legit and not a troll. Here is a youtube video showing some butt hitching along with other rigging techniques. I'm sure there are others if you look at some of the other youtube videos.

Here is a journal of arboriculture article on rigging.
