I just picked one up used (duh, since it is out of production) I started it up and it runs but the wheel flew to pieces.(I still don't know where half of it went!). I cannot get the wheel locking dohickey off the shaft. The thing will spin around the center piece of wheel that is left but not loosen. Any suggestions? The motor and shaft all turn. I'm not sure how to lock it up to break the thing loose.

Hi Stumper, I`m not familiar enough with Neilsens to know the answer, but it seems to me that Beavergirl has mentioned having a brand new old stock(obviously) Neilsen 245 and may even have the instruction booklet. Shoot her an email.

Look at the non grinder wheel end. If your grinder is anything like a K50, you'll find a crescent shaped slot in the end of the shaft which you can insert a quarter. This holds the shaft so you can turn the knurled retention knob to release the grinding wheel.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Russ and Beavergirl. This is the model 50. There is no slot on the end of the shaft unfortunately. I wound up disassembling the motor. With it out of the housing I was able to put a pair of vise grips on the tail of the shaft and break the knurled wheel retainer free. I hope that it doesn't have to be disassembled to change a wheel every time!:D
