Anyone seen one of these yet? It's an auto locking biner if you can believe that.

Here is what I was originally looking for. I have one I use for my lanyard an it is great for competition. It's easy to use and meets all the requirements.

One more item I want to get. This looks like a good buy. It is like the petzl ID but half the price and it looks like it would work better.

any thing sold by the french called the "joker" can't be good.:D

all kidding a side, it does not appear to be a true locker. it just requires more than odinary presure to open it. their just trying a different approach to prevent gate flutter on a lead fall. i guess they would fall in between a wire gate and a full on locker. but the ice climbers would shy away since they could freeze up, but even for rock climbing it would not be fun to slip a rope in one handed.

those bull dog biners look pretty sweet...how do you feel about useing a AL biner on steel rings?

I hope by tomorrow I will have my new saddle that does have aluminum rings. The problem I forsee is that the biner will wear. As long you inspect your gear and let go of hardware that isn't considered safe it's OK. I don't like steel it's too heavy. I don't like chainsaws cause they're too dirty.

For climbing I have no problem with AL on FE (ok that is iron, not steel...) since the laods are not all that high. It is in rigging with pulleis that I see the AL carabiner getting chewed up.

Check out american arborist online. The website itsn't quite up yet but you can info there on phone number and what not. I was just over there and they are now carrying one very similar to the bulldog. I got mine there before and I like the new version more. It will run about $37. It's a great snap. I can't wait to splice my new snap on to my 6 foot fly for a new lanyard to go with my butterfly.

I just had shoulder surgery yesterday and don't have much use of my right arm but it hasn't slowed me down ordering new gear.

Nope thats correct I just cut it at little over 7 feet for the one foot of tuck on the splice. My current lanyard was 9. That was a bit too much. If I am doing a removal with a large spar I have a 16 footer made from T 900. But for just prunning it is just right. The limbs at 90 ft up where I tie in aren't that big. Still haven't decided on wether I am going use my grillion, micro ascender or a friction hitch to attatch it.

The hanging end of my 6 foot lanyard. Have to wait to splice the other end. Anyone wanna come over and gice me a hand?

BJ, Someone is gonna rag on you about the "unapproved" 'biner.:p Personally, I see 2 sides to the subject. On one hand, triple locking 'biners/double locking snaps are very unlikely to unclip accidentally, on the other, the hard to unlock snaps can also be hard to clip in with when in an awkward position!. For years I used non-lockers on the lanyard and locking snaps on the climbing line. I never had a problem with that but recently switched to double lockers everywhere-I still don't know which is the safer set up. ;)

The bulldog is more of a snap with same locking mechonism as a regular lanyard snap. It is rated at 33kn so I don't see how they can rag on that. It's not really a biner. What makes a biner a biner and a snap a snap? Kinda like that chicken question.

I think when the ITCC was in Baltamore the bulldog was NOT allowed I recall several climbers being upset because it does lock like a snap and has the rating. The judges say it rolls out of dee rings too easally.

I do know it passed inspection at the New Jersey TCC. The snap I have now isn't a bulldog but is very much like it. This one is made by Climbing Technologies LTD. I doubt I'll make it to the ITCC this year, maybe as a spectator.

Big John, I wasn't referring to the bulldog, rather to the wiregate you have on your new lanyard. (and the screwgate on the ring of your new Bfly.):)

The wire gate I have on there just for hanging the tail end up out of the way or sometimes I like to clip a tool on there if I need to.

I spice both ends of my lanyards. The splice keeps it from running through the adjuster and also allows me to clip it to the rope biner next to my left d-ring. If the adjustor fails it will still be attached to secure point and it keeps the standing end out of my feet and does not get hung up in crotches while climbing.
