Does anyone here have thoughts regarding the purchase of a new boom truck that "has it all.."
Without the need for operators to have a CDL?
Make/model?
Also, about every 6 months I get dropped by AS and have to renew my user name, and password.
Does that happen to everyone?

Not sure what your asking? i bought my trucks new from the dealer.
if your going forestry body and 26,000 pounds or less you can only fill it up about half way with a 12 foot body on it. your better off just getting a CDL if you wanna be able to haul with it.
i have a set of scales and my bucket has weighed 31k with a full load of chips GMC with a 12 foot body.
the k-boom has a 14 foot body but a foot wider and 2 1/2 foot taller has weighed 36k with chips and right under 40k with logs.

What is the problem?:msp_mad:

That is a damn nice truck, Jeff. Nice and small, can drive it on driveways, lot of benefits to having something like that.

I just bought my first boom truck and ended up going with the forestry body and CDL. I thought I would end up with something more like that but couldn't pass up the deal I got on my truck.

I originally thought the CDL was gonna be nightmare, in reality it turned out not that bad..... so far. I got all the guys certified at a local truck school at a group rate, not to bad. As long as you keep your truck in good shape and you at least have a couple guys that don't smoke pot the CDL is really no big deal.

What size lift you got on that thing?

We have an 2008 Altec with a 55 foot reach now. Non CDL.
Is there another product out there that is similar?
By the way..
That Altec was "Out of Service" at least 6-7 months due to hydraulic problems.
It was purchased "New" 2010.
Altec was out to take care of the problems. However, down time was BS.
Altec does not pay you back for that
It was the Altec Platform, not the truck.

ya thiers tons xt55 hi ranger or altec is still making them

call FEVA google it thats where i got mine from.

you can have them mounted in a lot of variations.

I think the combo bodies are the bomb for pruning..... send one truck out get it all done nice and easy.

Removals are another story, that chipper needs to be lined up just right.

About the 'air brakes'. Some do, some don't. In the pic is a really sweet truck that we have had calls asking if we would sell it. This is a truck anyone can drive. Electric park brake, big Cummins, full inspection last year ($$), 1998 Ford F-Series, 55' Altec.
I love the big bed because you can pack alot of gear on it.

ya they are we run 4 man crews anyways tho so the extra seats need filled anyways. i think in the 3 years we had a forestry body we may have chipped in it 10 times. a lot of times the guys dump the barrels in it from raking up the yard.

ya i do like that truck after using a rear mount i wouldn't be able to go back got tired of cutting a whole and then having to rig limbs because their over your truck. backing up to it is the cats pajamas.

we built an international rear mount with 4x4 and the 4x4 was the best box i ever checked on the option list. thing will crawl just about anywhere a pickup will also keeps the truck from spitting out the alturna mats.

So it sat for 2 years and you bought it? Did you have it inspected prior to purchase? Was it inspected at all, or did they say it was and did you get the inspection report? We got truck's, but that is a favorite. Sorry yours let you down.
It cost money, but our truck is great. You either got a bad deal or the company did not want to pay for the inspection.
The owner of the company here would sell it if not for the fact we want it. In some way's better than our CDL truck's.
Jeff
