So I just started my own tree care business but was wondering if I needed the california contractor licence. I'm a certified arborist and insured. I don't need a business licence in the city I operate from. But I'm all filed with the county clerk. Just wondering if there are any last hoops to jump through and what the ccl would enable or prevent me from doing. Thanks

Yes you do need a CCL. Years ago I went and gave a bid, I was enrolled in a contractors class at the time, any way I gave the bid, after I handed it to the HO, I was arrested and taken inside the house where they booked me. It was a sting operation. I was never prostacuted because my bid was so low. They got 100rds of people. I had to put in my ads,"not a contractor". And no jobs over 500 dollars.
When you give a bid you're entering into a contract with the people. The good news is it's the easiest of all the contractors Lic. to get. All you have to do is pass the law and they give you the C47 I think it is(better check) Calif, doesn't have a lic. for just trees, but they have a generic one they give.
I am surprised you were able to get insurance without one.

Thanks, gotta love California. Onto another test I guess I hope they don't audit my taxes. I think the gov. And insurance company's are just happy to take your money. And I guess in the insurances case they could drop any claim I would make on acct of no ccl. Just when I start putting some money away!

Just enrolled in a school for the D49. It's a 125 question test, doesn't sound to bad, looks like after all is said and done it will be about 1100. Oh well I'll be ready for a twelve pack afterwards:givebeer:
