I have a lickity log splitter model 26mr34f S/N 7566 and it has a kohler K181pt, 30559d S/N-9784948. The engine is old and won't start very good any more and leaks oil out of the head. I was wondering if anybody has put a newer engine on these splitters. Any info would be great

I forget the model numbers, but I think yours is one of the big ones with a single stage pump and two stage cylinder. My old Lickity had the 8hp Kohler and I swapped out an electric start 12hp. The 12 was about worn out too and I was going to convert to the HF Predator, but sold it first. The Kohlers take a larger bolt pattern adapter for the pump. The Predator takes the same one for a Briggs. You may have to get half a Lovejoy to fit the pump, and half to fit the engine. Should not be a problem. Not many folks know how a Lickity work so if people start talking about a new two stage pump, it won't work. Try calling Webbs Farm Supply, 408 395 2227. I may be wrong. Mine was a MK348, yours might be one of the newer ones with a two stage pump. Super3 will have better info if he sees this, good luck, Joe.

DuroMax 7 HP Go Kart Log Splitter Gas Power Engine Motor - XP7HPE Electric Start $180

I have a DuroMax on my generator with at lest 200 hours on it, no problems. Ebay

Sounds like another good engine option. What mount bolt pattern do they use?

The DuroMax XP7HPE is the premium performing engine available from DuroMax. It features a 196cc - 4 Stroke Overhead Valve design Engine that has an Electric Keyed Start. It can cranks out 7 HP capable of 9.7-Ft/Lbs of Torque. The Shaft is 3/4” in diameter and 2-3/8” long, while the end is 5/16” size UNF size 24 Drill and Tapped. Feeding this workhorse engine is a 1 gallon Fuel Tank which at half load can run 2 hours on a single tank of fuel. The recommended operating Fuel is standard 87 Octane or better Gasoline. It is also EPA and CARB approved for safe use in mandated areas. This Engine can handle everything you can throw at it, whether being used for log splitters, water transfer pumps, or custom go-karts, the DuroMax line of engines will deliver power when you need it. Don't seethe bolt pat.

I have used several predator motors from 4 to 16 or 18 hp. Never a single problem. Would recommend them to anyone looking to repower a piece of equipment. Any part can be bought oem honda and swapped in.

Not exactly, some parts do not fit...

I know of a guy that bought an intake manifold for his predator and it wouldn't fit, the carbs were different too.

Why not rebuild the Kohler?

I have three Kohlers, one on my Lickety and two in Cub Cadet garden tractors that are over forty years old. I rebuilt the one in the Lickety and expect it to last until it is handed down.

Those old Kohlers may be old school but they have plenty of power and last forever.

The old cast iron Kohlers were TOUGH!

I have had good luck with the harbor freight motors and putting a 13 Hp on their with electric start is nice. I would tear down the Kohler and see how worn out it is. Like other have said they are tough engines and it might not need much to freshen it up.
