Hey everyone, I've seen the site come up on numerous searches, and seemed like a friendly knowledgeable group.

I'm basically an ameteur chainsaw guy, and as my personality dictates, I'm becoming addicted to saws and using them, as I get addicted to most of my hobbies. Mainly Jeeps, and wheeling occupy my time.

Anywho, I'm hoping to learn a lot more about the brands of saws, and proper technique to using them. I've tinkered with some old homelites, got some old saws running and what not. I have a soft spot for how things were made back in the day. This year we had some serious storms in the midwest, I came home from work, had 3 trees go down, and the old homelite was acting up. I ran out and bought a Stihl ms 250 w/ 16" bar, and obviously fell in love with that. I just got practically given an older poulan pro 295 w/ 20" that runs like a dream, so I couldn't pass that up, no Stihl, but a nice reliable saw.

I also did a lot of side work this summer doing some small chainsaw jobs, and then proceeded to hurt myself. I've been working in dangerous situations my whole life, and at my age felt I was too smart to hurt myself. Anyway, that's another story, but at least I went out and got the proper ppg that would've made 12 stitches nothing more than a bandaid most likely. I have a tremendous respect, and love for chainsaws, and using them. I hope to learn a lot.

Thanks.

Welcome to AS. Im sure youll enjoy it here. Maybe after you meet everyone you could tell us about your accident. Oh dont worry about having saws that arent all Stihls. There are plenty of lovers of other saws here too. :)

jpdocdave, Welcome to the clubhouse. I just installed a CV Boot on one of my Grand Cherokee's this afternoon. Right now I have Jeep on the brain but tomorrow it will be chainsaws.

Thanks for the welcome

I will have to post about my accident a little later. Had I read some of the posts I 've read about accidents sooner, maybe I would've avoided mine. All my life I've never been hurt, or had an accident, fatigue and over confidence were my downfall. I was very fortunate, 12 stitches, and really no pain to speak of, and no loss of any functionality once healed

LOL, I hear ya. Got your 12pt 13mm, and your 36mm sockets out huh. Not sure if you've thought of it, but a lot of guys will swap u joint front shafts from earlier xj's or other jeeps into the newer grands to eliminate the cv joints. I much perfer changing a u joint than nasty greasy cv boots.

I think next time I,m just going to swap the axle shaft out at the parts store. I gave $25 for the boot but for $59 you can just swap the shaft out.
You are right that is one nasty job. I use to have a 1949 Willys Jeep Pickup with a 538 differential and that was one tuff old dude.

Ya, very few people still change boots, the whole shaft is worth the few extra bucks.

Welcome!

I also have that soft spot for how things were made back in the day. But the neat thing with saws is that the new models aren't necessarily crap... unlike many other products. There are fine new designs coming out that really work well and will last as well. I am fascinated by how much power can be produced by these tiny little engines.

I ran a CJ7 for many years. Good times.

I agree, I love the old stuff, but once I ran that new Stihl it was a whole different game.

Can't beat a cj, fun stuff.
