Hi y'all.I am new here but do know a few of the fellows though(not personally though).I have sent e-mails to Art about his 090 when I was building mine.Still building it in fact.Bought a Contra from Yukon John.I did post on the Tool Shed Forum some time back when it had alot more to do with chainsaws.I see here there is a good group of fellows with a love for saws.

Now my question.I got another Contra/Lighting I am wanting to build into a Hot Saw.I still plan to build my 090 to,but I use it more as a milling saw so I can't be to radical with it now. When I e-mailed Art he suggested cutting in a window and adding booster ports. He also suggested advancing timing as far as it can go and opening points to .020-.025.I have a extra 090 cylinder and piston to.Will this fit on the 070(contra)?I also plan to use Carlton 1/2" pitch chain.I got 3 roller tip bars, only one fits the 070/090 the other I got just as extra tips.I know some use a salmon belly bar and I looked into building one,but who out there makes one ( Cannon?).Any and all suggestions would be appreicated very much.I just need the insight on what to use and what works.I am new to this game, but do have a little knowedge.

I last thing.I got a 066 and a 371XP I would like to get a little extra umph out of.What can I do?I know I can get it Walkerized,but what can I possible do.Thanks in advance:)

I was going through some of the past post and seen Ken Dunn.I talked to him once about building my 090:) It was along time ago though:(

Many of us here do most of our own repairs, and a lot even do minor muffler mods or carb work. What you are asking is out of the realm of most of our abilities except for perhaps about a dozen members or so. I'm sure you will get some good advice from someone who knows a heck of a lot more than me. It may take a day or two though.

If the thread drops to the bottom of the page, or the second page, just bump it back up with a reply until you get your answers. :)

My above post was in reference to hot rodding your Contra. We aren't complete dummies but only a select few here are qualified to discuss cutting windows in cylinders and modifying port timing. Especially on that old of a saw.

As for the 066 and Elux, are they older saws with stock dual port exaust and fully adjustable carbs? Or are they newer saws with EPA mandated limited-adjustment carbs and plugged up mufflers? Most of what I know about is simply getting a newer saw to run like the older ones before EPA screwed them up. Clean up exhaust port to muffler, open the muffler up and minor carb jetting/adjustment.

Oh, welcome to ArboristSite! I'm sure you will have a lot to contribute here. Looking forward to more tales about your Contra!

Thanks for the welcome:D I talked(sent e-mails that is) to Art and he told me about cutting windows and booster ports. He then told me my best bet was to call KD and have him do it all, probably my best bet on the older saw.The 066 and the Husky 371XP were bought new in 1999 so I guess they have all the EPA junk.I could mod the muffler I am sure, but not sure of what else to do?

You can gain a ton of power from both saws with simple muffler mods. Plenty of info here on older posts, if you care to search it. Or maybe someone will run it down for you yet one more time. :p

After opening up the mufflers, be sure to reset your carbs properly. Best instructions I've seen for carb adjustment is here-

if it were me i would keep the contras stock. such an old saw, a relic. Id find another 090, they are bigger anyway i think.

Thanks for the replies, fellows:) I have thought about keeping the Contra stock and may still do that ,but I got one that is stock already.I would love to find another 090 to make into a hot saw or even the one I got now:D
