Hey guys i have been on this site reading alot in the past month or two, i just dont post much. First i would like too say how great this site is and how much i have learned in the last couple of weeks. There are alot of great guys on here with alot of knowledge and wisdom.

I have never climbed before but have been running saws for years now and i would love too learn how too climb. I live in Henagar,Al; one hour from Huntsville,al and chattanoga,Tn. and two hours from Birmingham,Al.
Does anyone know of anyplaces in my area that sells climbing gear or saddles
that i can go try on and look at. If not do yaw think this climbing kit would be a good buy for a new guy ?http://wesspur.com/climbing-kits/basic-spur-climbing-kit.html Do yaw think its worth the money or would i do better buying individual things or what?

i would also be looking too buy some used stuff in good condition except a saddle. I will buy that new. Could yaw also recomend a good saddle for a beginner that wont cost a fortan.

Thanks for all the help guys!!!

Hi Dusty, Try a search on saddles in commercial tree care and climbing. There is always alot of talk about different ones. One of my employees has the petzel sequoia and likes it alot. I have a buckingham master deluxe. Both are good. I like the floating bridge type although mine is not. Also if your even going to use a split tail get one with a big enough tie in point up front for that. Ask people how they like theirs and try out as many as possible. Look for a sherrill tree store in your area. I think they will let you try on saddles.

Buy any gear that you will trust your life with, new. Also learn from a pro and get a job as a groundsman so you can learn the ins and outs of tree work.

Good Luck!

Mike

I should be permanently back in Knoxville TN by sometime in November. You could come up that way or maybe I can do a road trip if you hook me up with some awesome BBQ in your area.
