Hello all, I am wondering about doing some climbing. I used to work for the cable company and had to hook poles just about everyday. I know the gaffs are different but are the techniques similar. I am not going to tackle any monster trees just a coupe yard maples. I also am familiar with rappelling from up to 300 feet. With the two combined experiences in my trunk do I have a good starting point or do I need to "unlearn" those skills and start fresh??

At least your comfortable with heights and have some experience in rapeling and spiking up poles.(don't use spikes on trims :smile2:). But yes, you have somewhat of a starting point.

If you think this is something your really interested in then work with a tree service and learn from a seasoned climber. Never forget, this s##t can kill you.
