it measures horizontal distance and height accurate to 0.5% of scale and also takes into account changes in gradient. As well as measuring tree height you can use it to get a location of a tree in woodland if you can't geta good GPS signal. You need a fixed point to work from but once you have that you can work out the loaction of trees in woods.
