TOWN OF MAZOMANIE, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin officials have long turned a blind eye to nudists who flock to a beach about a half hour north of the capital -- but they draw the line at public sex.

Officials say arrests for drug use and illicit sex at the beach on the Wisconsin River just north of Mazomanie spiked last year. In just nine days of surveillance, wardens arrested 42 people for illicit sex or drug possession, up from 14 in six days in 2007.

To try to curb the bad behavior, the state Department of Natural Resources said Tuesday it will close down huge expanses of the woods around the beach in hopes of forcing people into clear view.

Nudists aren't happy with the plan, but other river users say something must be done.

just think how easy they could shut down logging - i have heard of people camping in trees, chaining thmeselves to trees(seen it once in WI), but this might work- all the tree huggers come and get nude- easy peasy

Sssshhhhhhh!!! Don't give 'em any ideas. Besides, some of the tree huggers I've seen, well I'm just not real sure I'd want to see them naked. Or observe their mating rituals either.

They might be able to get away with that down by Madtown but let them come up north. I bet they would run when they saw some real loggers cutting there hiding spots down, and if that didn't work we would just send the tics after them:hmm3grin2orange:

That and the humidity. Winter was fun though. Lots of tick free things to do in the winter there.

yea, the humidity is a bummer. my brother moved west to get away from it and he rubs it in regular. Last winter there was hardly any snow, so i keep thinking it will even out with a wet year, but so far dry - for WI anyway

Yeah, Everyone is thinking the same thing is going to happen up here in Maine this summer too. Keep the tics away from me, LOL.
