Just bought our first house. And a Stihl Farm Boss. (I know about safety gear, too. Grew up on a farm, so respect machinery.)

I've got 175 dense black walnuts (so mostly very straight and about 10" in diameter) with a couple elms, box elders, and hackberries, with one cherry and one burr oak (I'm keeping those two).

I poked around on the forum but couldn't find tips on cutting BW. Please direct me to other threads that will be helpful or answer here.

I had a county forestry agent come out and mark trees that should come out, to help the best ones grow better. How do you choose what to bring down for the good of the others?

And how troublesome will the stumps be? What's the best way to deal with them? Do I need to paint/spray stumps? What about if I cut a limb?

Any other relevant BW info would be most appreciated!

Black Walnut For Fine Woodworking

Am interested in your Black Walnuts, btw congratulations on your purchases. I have had exoperience with Black Walnut and have a fairly good stock all ready to go if interested. Pics of this grove would be nice, what are your plans? obviously your planning something. My best advice at this stage is to sit down and plan well ahead. Will be watching your thread and will do what I can, maybe even come and look, nice wood is becoming more rare each and every day.
