Looks like a lot of work. Hopefully mostly needing a good cleaning.

I think I have shared this before. When I was in High School, I got a job selling parts at a Honda/Kawasaki dealer. One of the other guys started to price out a new bike made up of all parts. He didn't get very far before vastly exceeding the price of a new fully assembled ready to ride bike on the showroom floor. Parts are expensive, so figure out, as best you can, what it is going to cost before spending a nickel.

Ok hit the first problem. Is this switch missing anything? Like a plastic guide? I can get the 036 pro to crank with the run switch on STOP. But nothing else gets a crank. Maybe the metal piece is bent wrong ? Any ideas or does someone have this saw and can send me a picture. Thanks

If you can post a few more pictures of the switch in each position, so that it shows the spring/tab engagement.
You can also remove the wire bullet out of the slot and try the different positions. If it starts on trying, you can touch the bullet to the spring and it shall kill the motor

The switch when off, grounds the circuit to the chassis (no spark to plug). You've likely attached the switch connector incorrectly. Get out an Ohm meter and confirm closed and open circuit based on continuity to ground with respect to switch position.

The metal clip
My 034 did exactly the same thing. The clip is not positioned to ground when the switch is off. Then the end of the clip does ground in the other switch positions. The round part of the clip (red arrow) should be contacting the metal wire connector (blue arrow). [Edit for clarity: the clip is supposed to touch the wire to ground only in the off position. My original wording may have been misleading and was referring to how it was in the photo. As shown in the photo, the clip is not grounded when in the off position, but rotates with the switch in the run position so it is grounded.] I hope that's clear. A little tweak on the clip and you'll be back in business. 20220211_192104.png

You've got that backwards. Off position grounds the coil, no spark.

But, Your pictures in post #14 are correct, off top one, running bottom one.

To OP, those are two of my favorite saws. Are you sure 038 is a Mag? Maybe someone switched top cover, nope now I see just faded.

I usually take my 036 and 038M into the woods together with 20 and 25" bars, respectively. Anything that buries the bar good on the 036 and the 038 takes over. I have a 026 but the 036 is only slightly heavier and lots more power. I like the 026 for small stuff/limbs....
