Here's a half-way decent translation with "Sherlock" Mac OSX:

STIHL announces paragraph pluses despite unfavorable weather and lame
that to economic situation

World-wide paragraph plus obtains

The STIHL group registered a conversion at a value of 1,032
million euro in the first 8 months of the current yearly. This
corresponds to a decrease of 3 per cent in relation to the period last
year. The recession in sales is currency, because with the euro/dollar
course from 2002 would have risen the conversion over over 5 per cent.
"world-wide could be obtained despite dryness, lame that economic
situation and general purchase restraint a paragraph plus with power
saws and devices as well as with rails and chains", said Dr. Bertram
Kandziora, executive committee speaker of the STIHL AG, with the
autumn press conference of this year. The weak US dollar, in addition,
the depreciation of the Canadian dollar, British Pound, Japanese Yens
and Polish Zlotys lead to a world-wide conversion easily under
previous year level.

Very durable professional saw for highest requirements. Point
in the weight per horsepower. ElastoStart. Full number of revolutions.
High torque. Extremely vibration-poor. In series with more again
rapidly super Comfort saegekette. Ideally for holzeinschlag and wood
harvest work and for Durchforstung in bar and weak tree wood and in
medium strong stocks.

After spending way to long on babel fish. it looks as if the saw weighs 12.35 lnbs, makes 4.5 hp, has a new filtration sytem, a quad transfer cylinder, new av sytem, new ignition and a few other things

I am betting this saw will have engine performance simular to a husky with this type of cylinder. The new package is also slightly lighter and slightly more powerful than the old 360 so it looks like this is a step forward. Glad its not a 270/280 plastic fantastic ,pos design.

It appears as though there's an accelerator pump on the carb, "quad ported" (or whatever they call it) cylinder (and which has pretty much been available so far only on the "plastic fantastic" saws), etc.&nbsp; See <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stihl.de%2Fknowhow%2Ftippstricks%2Fprofisaegenms3x1%2Fleistung%2Fdefault.htm&langpair=de%7Cen&hl=en">this link</a>.&nbsp;

An interesting thing is that the current MS340 is about 57cm3 and the MS360 is about 62cm3 while <i>both</i> these new saw models are 59cm3.

That's messed up. Why produce identical displacemnt saws where one is weaker than the other? I bet it is a mistake in their web posting.

Are google's translated page-links dropping out of the loop and sending the original document for everyone tonight or is it just my setup here?&nbsp; Here's the <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stihl.de%2Fisapi%2Fprodukte%2Fproduktvergleich.asp%3Fgruppe%3D1495&langpair=de%7Cen">translated comparison link</a>.&nbsp; Sorry if it's unnecessary.

Hmmm... the weights are greater for the various 361s .There must be some differences. Maybe they just add bolt-on weights inside the case so that one seems bigger than the other.
I understand your point Brian but I can't bring myself to think that way-manufacturers may do it but I couldn't. If the same powerplant goes for 2 different price points fine but there needs to be a reason for the price differencial for me. If it were as simple as one model having a spur sprocket and laminated bar and the other a rim and drum with a millled bar I'd accept it but my thinking would still be to use the same model number with differing letter designation or something. I just can't see making a same displacement saw with differing outputs.

I'm intrigued by the "microprocessor ignition". Have they actualy computerized it?

The 341's ignition module is running a Microsoft product, and the 361's is running GNU/Linux.&nbsp; Normally the former costs about $100 more than the latter.&nbsp; The comparison works well enough to explain the performance differences, but the higher-priced one would then by comparison be the "smaller" one.

Click on the four images left of the saw in the first link I posted.&nbsp; One of them describes the ignition module function.

Here's a rough translation if you're in a hurry:

<img src="http://www.stihl.de/knowhow/tippstricks/profisaegenms3x1/leistung/images/neuesAVsystem.gif"> <b>New AV System:</b>&nbsp; We were thumbing through the Husky catalog and liked the look of what they were doing but thought we could make it look a little less fragile.&nbsp; If they think theirs is soft, wait til they feel what we can do with feathers as motor mounts!

<img src="http://www.stihl.de/knowhow/tippstricks/profisaegenms3x1/leistung/images/vierkanal.gif"> <b>STIHL four-channel technology:</b>&nbsp; We got this idea from some old 45RPM inserts.&nbsp; This spage-age polymer diffuser floats freely above the piston and ensures a swirl is induced in the combustion chamber as well as trapping all unburned hydrocarbons and saving them for the next go-round.&nbsp; Any unburned hydrocarbons which make 30 cycles are deemed to be faulty and are converted harmlessly into an atmospheric-like gas (mostly oxygen and nitrogen) and distilled water, which is saved in the rear handle so that the operator will not be burdened by carrying a separate drinking water container.&nbsp; (patents pending)

<img src="http://www.stihl.de/knowhow/tippstricks/profisaegenms3x1/leistung/images/microprozessorgesteuert.gif"> <b>Microprocessor-controlled ignition system:</b>&nbsp; "The microprocessor-controlled ignition system gives the crucial Kick when sawing.&nbsp; It provides for best tuning of ignition on each number of revolutions, starting without recoil, calm no-load operation, spontaneous acceleration and optimal torque." &nbsp;[I couldn't improve on google's version]

<img src="http://www.stihl.de/knowhow/tippstricks/profisaegenms3x1/leistung/images/vibrationsarm.gif"> <b>Rapid Super Comfort Sawchain:</b>&nbsp; We contracted Oregon of Canada to restamp some of their low-vibe sideplates for us.&nbsp; We really hope none of those fudge-packing snoops over at Arboristsite find out and say something, like they did about our bars north of the border.

Very Nice GlenS

You know that was pretty good- you might need to look that as an occupation...
