How large of a space are you heating with the oslo? We had also looked at that model but leaned toward the castine because our house is small (1100 sqft). We do get very cold weather here though so we are kinda unsure.
Thanks

Jonah,
We are heating around 1400-1500 sq ft of our 1780 sq ft house. Our stove is a hearth mount, center of the house, no fans on the stove but we do use a small fan in the bedroom hallway to push cold air toward the living room where the stove is. This makes for a nice circulation of air. As I've said before: Without this small fan assist, our toilet seat is cold - with the small fan assist the toilet seat is warm.
We opted for no fan on the stove as the stove is only about 12 feet from where hubby sits and we didn't want to bake him out of the room.
We installed our Oslo wood stove 2/12/10 and haven't turned the furnace on since then.
If this helps any, the salesman at the stove shop said to take the manufacturers statement of btu output/sq. ft. of heating ability and reduce that amount by 1/3 to 1/4 and you should be just about right. Bear in mind, these reductions are based on Wisconsin winters. The Oslo is rated at 70,000BTU / 2,000 sq ft. Just reducing 2,000 sq. ft. by 1/4 brings us down to 1500 sq ft - which is about what we are heating.
We can get over night burns but that depends on the type of wood you use, must (repeat must) be fully seasoned wood and what time of night/day you stoke it.
Oh, yes, we opted for the blue/black finish - it still looks like new!
