There is no model replacement for a 680.

They certianly do need some marketing, but they do have some solid models.

Once in a while you get a buyer that just wants something different. They have a place, even if just a small one.

I try to carry stuff that they can't buy anywhere else close around. Carlton chain would be another example.

BWalker, I have no arguement to your challange. New models? Just rumors apparently so far.

I just bought em cause I like Dagger. He has good saw industry stories.

Ben, you've got to start the SOLO first! Honestly, I really would like to see a stock 026 smoke a Solo 651. It might cut with it at best, all else being equal (same bar and chain, equal break in on saws, etc). I really don't think you're making a fair representation of the saw buy saying an 026 will SMOKE it. I'd offer to race, but my slightly modded 651 gives an 036 a good run for the money.

according to CSCC the solo 694 is mfd by dolmar? solo isn't another electrolux product now is it?

Solo is independently owned company by the Emmerich family headquartered in Singlfingen, Germany.
Good people.
Built a real neat hang glider engine.

DOLMAR 9010 is private labled for Solo since they really went bust in the USA on big saws above 70 cc years ago.

Unfortunately when they intro'd the 667, 670, 680, 690, then 603, they had some arrogant Americans in power in the USA who didn't know saws, or the market. Would 'hear' but not listen. I remember a few good arguements with them.

Have since taken care of business, and are have become a stable company producing a good line of Euro styled back pack blowers, trimmer-brushcutters, lawn equipment (mowers, tractors, tillers for the European market), and still make some of the best pump sprayers, mist blowers in the world.

Solo's coloring & nomanclature is neat & qiute simple:
All red color meant Pro.
Black & red meant Semi Pro. (Yellow was for Lowe's. etc.).
This was based on power to weight ratio, cylinder type, and some smaller features.

Example model 667.
First # designates product type. 6 = chain saw.
Second two #'s = displacement 67cc.
Black & red coler = Semi Pro.

Orginally there was both a 667 & 670. Only difference was displacement, porting, color & price.
667 was 67cc, open transfer port. Window style port covers.
670 was 70 cc, closed transfer port. Window style covers.
670 had real good power, but was high priced for US market, and eventually was dropped.
Can put 70 cc cylinder assy on 667

680 (80cc), 690 (90cc), 603 (103cc) were basically the same chassis. New 694 (90cc) is now the big saw flagship.

651, 651SP have been around for close to 10 years. Solid design, debugged, reliable, pretty good power, pretty easy to service, and generally a good selling price.

Similar to DOLMAR 111-PS540 models that have been out for almost 20 years. Have a good design, continue to improve upon it, keeps service simple, and costs down vs companies that are bringing out models to replace models every other year.

so when was the break between supplying solo built and dolmar built saws?

Has anyone tried the solo 631 arborists saw?

Solo 694 (DOLMAR 9010) became available late '03-early '04.

Try emailing Rich Hoffman, I think he has some experience with 631's.
Nice top handle.

If all these smaller based saw companies are what you guys state why aren't they being used more here in the US. Like this Redmax know one mentioned them on here for a while now there are a few members here that make mention they are the best thing since sliced bread.

Are we all to believe this, the redmax can blow out a 346xp hell if we look back the 346 could do no wrong 8 months in certain members hands. This weeks flavor is Solo what's next week. Sure I am for the smaller guy trying to bust in and take are breath away but it just isn't the case.

I am sure there's good in all these saws but if there was more to be gained from the Solo, Redmax why aren't they being modified. People have stated that they don't have the market share, advertising, PR campaighn. So are we to believe the people selling them or the people buying these. If we take a pole how many members here own them compared to a Husky or a Stihl. This might just be another marketing ploy since chainsaw sales are down on the site.

When the 346xp came in we all needed them, what is the sale stats this month for the 346. The Old 7900 came and where is it today? I dunno but Stihl and Husky will be on top for a while get used to it. These Chainsaws are like my dogs "It costs just as much to feed a good one as it does a bad one" Don't fall for the old I just discovered this and it's fast it might just be the best in it's size Look who is telling you this Line.

Value is only set by the consumer. Different consumers have different ideas of what is valuable to them. There are certainly unquestionalble things that are better about an 026 Stihl than a 651 Solo (like dealer support). Then there are things that may be perceived by some as more valuable, and by others as less valuable (like the power output). Then there are things about the Solo that are unquestionably better (like a fully adjustable carburetor). Then there is the amount of weight each person puts on each caracteristic of a product. I have owned both an 026 Pro and a Solo 651, and based on what I consider most valuable to me, I would not trade the 651 for an 026, no way, no how. But to me, being different, and not just blindly going along with popular opinion is important. I enjoy the challenge and reward of finding a truly good product that I had to research, that most others are not even aware of, and I am willing live without things like a local dealer. But I have never owned a new vehicle and never plan on it, and keep patching together my old rust bucket because I think it's a total waste to have a "nice" vehicle. I guess I not in the popular mainstream.

Other people (and I'm not criticizing, just pointing out differences in perceived value) will buy a Stihl because it's a Stihl and only if it's a Stihl with no second though. Obviously Stihl has invested in it's reputation and it's name. When I offer to let some people try for free a brand new Dolmar PS-7900, their response often is, "We won't buy it unless it's a Stihl, so we don't want to bother."

I ported a craftsman green disguised Solo 651SP (rated at 3.6Hp stock) for a friend of mine. He went to help a friend of his from work cut up a tree. When he pulled out his "Crapsman" chainsaw, I think the guy almost laughed. After my friend made a few cuts, the guy said, "That's not an ordinary craftsman saw." Then he went a grabbed his 036 Stihl and the race was on. Now I know that most will not believe any numbers comparing saws, and rightly so as there are so many variables, especially when using different saws and chains by different owners, so I am making no claims about how fast a 651 is. All I can say is this. I like mine, and if someone has similar perceptions of value as I have, they may like one as well. That's the wonderful thing about capitalism. We have a choice!

joelamb,

Still haven't answered as to whether you're going to Louisville expo, or the GIE show?
Or what do you sell at the shop..?

These shows are for education and exposure.
Would like to spend some time with you in the booths, or outside in the demo areas.

You might get pleasantly surprised.

Almost forgot, have you ever been to Pennsylvania, like Billy Joel?

Point To Ponder.
Ran into the Jeff XXXX the Echo factory sales rep who lives about 25 miles from me. He's a good competitor, and we'll hopefully get to do some hunting together soon. We talk enough about it.
Asked me, What do I know"?
Told him, "I know more today than I did yesterday, but not as much as I will tomorrow".

It's a big world out there, with alot of wonderful things to experience, and learn about.

Sawman,

I don't plan on going to the Expo. When RedneckMax comes up with a saw that will run with an 066 let me know, and when you get some "Credible Dealers" be sure to let us know that too.

Am I to understand since your banking everything on the 066;

It must be the only model that's needed?
or ,
The only maker of good saws?
or,
The only company that has good dealers?

Actually the saw is a Solo 633. I have been using this saw for almost 2 yrs. It has been real solid. The thing that impressed me was the saws good cold running. It may be 25 degrees out but start this saw and she is ready to cut, pretty good throttle response. The power is on par with the Echo top handle saws.
