Hello Folks
I am Big Daddy... New to this site, as well as the chainsaw circle. I have two saws both Husqvarna's, a 55 Rancher, and one of the last 372 XPW ordered yesterday. I read some of the post's before joining the site, and mods jumped right out at me. What kind of mods if any should i consider and why, I like to learn thats why I ask why...

Thank You
Big Daddy

Welcome to ArboristSite

Are you Big Daddy Don Garlits? Welcome. The most common and cost-effective mod would have to be opening up the muffler. The mufflers today are restrictive due to EPA (emissions) and OHSA (noise). You will enable the saw to run better by reducing the constriction built into a modern saw muffler. The saw will be able to breath easier and run stronger. It is very important to adjust your carb to compensate for the increased air flow (richen the fuel/air mixture). Failing to do so will lead to an overly lean condition and destruction of the piston and cylinder. Carb adjustment screws are limited in their range of motion due to the folks at the EPA. Limiter caps are installed over the adjustment screws to prevent you from easily tuning your saw to optimum running conditions. These caps have to be modified or removed in order for you to be able to do so. A tachometer would be a worthwhile investment if you going to be working on saws.:chainsaw:

Welcome Brotha!!!!!

Don't be doing any mods on the 372 until it's run about 30 tanks of gas through it. Guess you have your work cut out for ya bro... Welcome Eh?

30 tanks?......I'm curious as to what type of mods you are referring to? Muffler mods can be done long before that. I did mine after ~3-4 tanks and it runs like a charm. :D Others here have done them brand new.

Yea, but I myself don't really think it's a good idea. I think a bunch of other will agree also. During break-in, the saw's output changes constantly, which means you have to adjust it after several tanks. If it's modded the break in time could change and you could start running it too lean too soon. Eh, each their own right bud? Not for me. For my $700+, I'm gonna make sure it's broken in and tuned before I start trying to mod it to get more out of it... I'm sure you'd also see a bigger difference if you waited till broken in as breaking in gives you more power inherently anyways... Just my .02 guy...

Thanks Folks
I am most interested in reliability and durability. I bought the Husqvarna brand at the advise of some Amish folk I am very close to. This seems to be a lively bunch here so I should fit right in...

Good Day

Welcome Big Daddy! :) :greenchainsaw:

It is both lively and nice here now, let's hope it stays that way.

.....but the site has had its ups and downs in the past. :ices_rofl:
