My mother and steppops are always out boating and mentioned tonight that they found an orangish red small saw that may be a top handle. They dont know anything about chainsaws besides the fact my stepdad owns an eager beaver 2.0 thats been rotting away in the shed. It was sitting on a beach of an island for awhile and no idea how long. Cruising sheriffs patrol asked them what they were gonna do with it cause thats a great model saw but they said they'd keep it for a project for me. Ill be gettin my hands on it within a day or 2. Im excited to think it could be a top handled husqy but ya never know...

Plus being out in the elements (sand, water..etc) would it be shot? They have no idea what condition it is but ill soon know. Guess my question is, has any saw thats been left out and gotten soaked to the core (i didnt ask if it was submerged but probably should have) ever run again? Maybe ill get lucky, who knows. They said the bar couldnt be more than 10" or so and said maybe i could use it for parts. I recently rebuilt a Husq 338XPT and wouldnt mind owning something like that. Be sweet to find out, and i found myself awful pissy not to see it or get my hands on it TODAY!!!! (CAD hurts) but i will be patient. What kills me is the sheriffs patrol wanting the saw cause its a "great saw & brand" & "could they have it?"

So i think (or hope) im in for a treat!!! Fingers crossed! What else would be orangish/red and black??? Echo?

Thats why i asked a few times. "Is it orange and black?" "Is it dark orange or red?" All i got was maybe orange/redishish with some black... Killing me!!!

Id love a 200T, but wouldnt mind a newer husqy top either. Its a win win. Hopefully ill get to find out later today!!

Woohoo

Turns out its and Echo, it will arrive tomorrow. Wasn't salt water and was found on an island, i guess what i meant to say was wether it was submerged in rainwater or run off. The island was on the Hudson river, no salt, but we shall see i spose

Echo makes a nice top handle saw. Hope it hasn't been left out in the weather too long. If you are lucky, its a 330T,great little pruning saw.

Should be here soon. Recently rebuilt a 338xpt and ive got plenty of new parts for it. Im always down for a challenge. My guess, since the recent nice weather, it hasnt been out there too long as someone would have grabbed it. I know everyone in the area but no one has claimed it yet. Even if they do, i'd be glad to fix it up for them just for good juju

Oh wait, the 338xpt was husqy... Hmmm, this will be my first echo. That makes a big difference lol

Ill post a pic when it gets here. See what ill be workin with. Id rather a late model and go strictly oem. Hopefully gonna learn to start climbing. Echos any good for climbing saws, onviously limbing i guess

If its a top handle arborist saw, it should be fine for climbing/limbing. If the stickers are gone/missing, look for an ID plate on it. It will have the model number, serial number and probably date of mfg. BTW, the Echo website will have the owners manual and Illustrated parts List.

Well, its an Echo CS-271T 2014 model. Bar looks brand new, chain was a tad rusty, a little sandy on the outside but air filter and so far everything seems somewhat clean on the inside. Guess i should pull the exhaust to see what the guts look like. Gonna drain everything and start tearing it down. The muffler looks brand new btw. Anyone know about this model?

Is this worth keeping as a decent arborist saw or is something with a little more grunt needed? these little things surprise me but im not too familiar with top handles, only rebuilt a couple of em, not alot of time behind the bar tho. Whats it worth?? a quick google showed HD sells them at 299$ but thats new, this one has some sap on some areas but i'll give it a good cleaning somemore tomorrow to see what she looks like
